This course is aimed at youth workers, social workers or other professionals on youth sector.

Learning outcomes:

  • You will be introduced of successful youth work practices, which are used for social empowerment of young people in Europe.
  • You will discuss with your colleagues from abroad the perspective of preventing social exclusion, enhancing empowerment and employability of youth.
  • You get practical examples of empowering youthwork promoting inclusion, participation, empowerment, active citizenship, and employability.
  • You understand the significance of these subjects in terms of well-being of youth.

Contents:

  • The course introduces successful youth work practices, which are used for social empowerment of young people in Europe.
  • The course is divided on five different sections
    1. Getting to know your course colleagues
    2. “Equality” and “Experiential learning”
    3. “Employment” and “Online community/ mentoring”
    4. Developing a new working method for yourself
  • All sections introduce best practice/ examples, methods, recommendations, and further readings/ information with text, articles, pictures, and videos.
  • There are conversation tasks for you with instructions.

Methods:
The course is based on group activities and conversation tasks. In the beginning you get your own international group, and you proceed with the tasks together. Therefore, this course cannot be completed individually at your own pace.

This course does not include live lectures.

The course covers3 ECTS credits, totalling 81 hours of student work. The number of hours is theoretical and varies according to student effort.

Study material:
The study material is accessible for everyone on the learning environment. All sections have their own interactive books that contain text about the topics, accessible external links to articles and videos followed by group discussion tasks.

Assessment:
Based on group works and tasks.
No exams.

Grading: Failed/Passed

Transcript of records will be delivered by request by email in PDF form.

This course is based on the curricula of Xamk's degree programmes and the Finnish credits are fully compatible with the ECTS.
