Enrolment period: 4th – 10th of August 2021, the enrolment is binding. The enrolment form will open 4th of August at 9 am Finnish time.
Price: Path studies are free of charge till 31 December 2021. The Autumn semester is free of charge and the Spring semester costs EUR 175.
If you continue your studies for the 2nd year in Kouvola campus, the tuition fee is for non-EU/EEA citizens EUR 9 700 / academic year.

Objectives:
The goal of the path studies is to complete 60 credits of core competence included in the education in one academic year. By completing at least 50 ECTS credits, you have the right to apply a study place as a degree student.
The basic studies cover arts and design skills, design methods and professional tools. The education centers around 3D modeling, concept art, script writing and game mechanics. Different game design concepts will be explored in workshops, leading to design-orientated multidisciplinary projects in cooperation with various organizations.
The programme aims to provide competence in global game design entrepreneurship with hands-on experience and a holistic approach to visual game design concepts. Studies in Game Design enable students from different cultural backgrounds to build an international career.
Contents and methods:
Your knowledge as game designer will grow and the content of studies follow certain themes.
1st year you become familiar with the principles of game design, tools and software as well as project-based work.
Additional information
You should bring the following documents with you on the first day of studies:
– passport/residence permit or official Finnish ID
– certificate of physical examination (students from outside Finland only).
This means that student should have a health examination done by a medical professional (nurse or doctor) who fills in the certificate. The certificate gives Xamk school nurses basic information about your health, in case you need to use their services during your studies.
Enrolment and cancellation:
Enrolment on the path studies is binding. Students to open study path are taken in enrolment order. If you enroll on several open paths, the primary path is the one you enrolled first.

Study grants
Studying in the Open UAS does not entitle you to a study grant or other student benefits or discounts. In case you intend to study unemployed, please contact your local employment office (TE-toimisto) before you begin your studies. If your employer has granted you at least two months of uninterrupted study leave, you can apply for a full adult education allowance from Employment Fund.
Residence permit
If you are not a citizen of Finland, it is possible that you have to have a valid residence permit in order to study in the Open UAS. You cannot get a residence permit based on of Open UAS studies. More info here.
From path to degree
You can apply in joint application period for Bachelor of Culture and Art degree programme during your open path studies, if you qualify the admission criteria. More information here Applying – XAMK
It is also possible to apply for a degree student without a formal qualification at separate admission organized by Xamk. This is possible after you have completed 50 credits. More info here
The credits you have completed will be recognized as a part of your degree. Please notice, that if you are admitted as a degree student, the tuition fee for students outside of the EU/EEA is 6000 euros / academic year. More information on tuition fee www.xamk.fi/en/education/tuition-fees/.
