The number of first-choice applicants for South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences increased in this autumn’s joint application, which ended 14 September.
The number of first-choice applicants was 2,693 and the number of all applicants was 7,954. For the most popular degree programme, the number of first-choice applicants per one study place was 20.3. The number of first-choice applicants per one study place for all degree programmes at Xamk was 2.9, while last autumn’s number was 2.7. The number of first-choice applicants increased by 15% from last year.
Of the applicants, 28.7% were from Xamk’s own regions, i.e. Kymenlaakso and South Savo, 15.5% from abroad, and 55.8% from other regions in Finland.
The most popular bachelor’s degree programme was the online Degree Programme in Business Information Technology, for which the number of first-choice applicants per one study place was as high as 20.3. The next most popular were the English-language Degree Programme in Game Design in Kouvola, the Degree Programmes in Social Services in Mikkeli and Kotka, and the Degree Programme in Building Services Engineering in Mikkeli.
The most popular master’s degree programme was the English-language Master’s Degree Programme in International Business Management in Kouvola, for which the number of first-choice applicants per one study place was 8.7. The next most popular were the online Master’s Degree Programmes in Management of Digital Marketing and Information Management and Digital Archiving.
Online and blended studies are becoming more and more popular, says Heikki Saastamoinen, Xamk’s CEO and President. The number of first-choice applicants for Business Information Technology was the highest ever at Xamk and the 8th highest in Finland in the autumn joint application. I am also pleased that we have been able to increase the popularity of the Nursing Degree Programme compared to last autumn. This has been achieved by making the implementation of studies more flexible and having an online-based approach in the theoretical teaching.
Xamk offered a total of 917 available study places in 30 degree programmes in the autumn joint application. The names of applicants admitted by means of certificate-based selection will be published on 20 October at the latest, and the names of applicants admitted on the basis of entrance exams or other selections will be published by 25 November. The studies will start in January 2023.
