The Management Team has decided that Xamk will start a process to gradually return to contact teaching. This means that degree and exchange students who started their studies in January 2022 will attend contact teaching on campus from 14 February onwards.

The epidemic situation remains relatively difficult in South Savo and Kymenlaakso, but restrictions are currently being lifted step by step.  The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is no longer recommending Finnish higher education institutions to arrange instruction remotely.

“We want our new students to get to know each other and become full members of the Xamk community. With other restrictions also being lifted, we decided to enable this now,” says CEO and President Heikki Saastamoinen.

All other students will return to contact teaching on 7 March, in accordance with the decision made earlier.

Similary, staff members are recommended to work remotely until 6 March, as previously decided.

Sports facilities and groups

The following changes have been made:

Kotka campus gym opens on 3 February.

Group sports sessions organised by Xamk Sports on Mikkeli and Savonlinna campuses can start from 7 February onwards. A separate safety plan for these activities has been prepared. The sports schedules will be updated on Lux as soon as the activities are launched – see more information at Sports Mikkeli and Sports Savonlinna. (requires login)

Travelling

The restrictions on international travel of staff members are lifted so that trips can be planned and taken from 7 March. In terms of risk assessments for international travel, the emergency conditions guidelines are abandoned and the regular Xamk travel guidelines are reintroduced.
