The results of the arrival survey from academic year 2019 – 2020

 

The arrival survey collects information about the orientation related to starting of studies, the atmosphere, student tutoring and the student satisfaction. The survey also collects information about our image, communication and marketing, and willingness to recommend our institution.

All degree students respond to the arrival enquiry during their first semester. This survey will be implement twice a year, autumn and spring. The results of the survey are review by the Education Management Team, Wellbeing Team, Education Departments and the participants of development forums at degree programmes together with students.

Questions were propositions and rating scale are as follows: 1 = very poorly, 2 = quite poorly, 3 = not poor or well, 4 = quite well, 5= very well.

The results from a Bachelor’s studies

A total of 1099 students answered the arrival survey and answering percent was 59.

Students were very satisfied. Cooperation with the staff and students is fine. Students are being heard and encouraged.

–       a total mean was 4.1.
–       at the moment, I am a satisfied student mean was 4.1.
–       97 percent of students were intended to study in this education until graduation.

Reasons why students were satisfied: their own interested in the field of study, they have good study motivation, the progress of their studies, the comfort of learning studies, professional and inspiring teachers, getting support when needed.

Reasons why students were not satisfied: Their own life situation, unclear instructions, lack of contact teaching, hurry and the falling pace of studies, level of teaching does not meet expectations, or too much group work and an exceptional situation caused by the corona virus.

Two education got excellent total mean, which was 4.5:

Wellbeing management (Mikkeli) and Industrial wood construction (Savonlinna).

The best means were in the following statements:

–       the cooperation with the students 4.4
–       the cooperation with the staff 4.4
–       the students in my education are being heard and encouraged 4.2
–       my education has a pleasant and functional learning environment 4.1
–       the usability of the eLearning environment (Learn) 4.1

The atmosphere of the studies were encouraging, comfortable and relaxed.

 

The lowest mean was “student tutoring”, mean was 3.6.

The best results were:

–       a degree from Xamk is well respected in the labour market 4.0

To be developed

–       The campus town seems to appeal 3.4

–       Xamk is pioneering 3.5

Net promoter score (NPS) “How likely you would like to recommend Xamk to a friend or acquaintances?” was 28.

The reasons why would you recommend Xamk?
A comfortable or cozy atmosphere, a good learning environment, location and appropriate size, quality teaching and good teachers, as well as the diversity of studies and the provision of suitable opportunities for students.

The reasons why not recommend Xamk?
The location, the level of education, old-fashioned and college studies are not for everyone.

 

The results from a Master’s studies

A total of 246 students answered the arrival survey, which was 46 percent of students.

Students were very satisfied. Cooperation with the staff and students is fine. Students were being heard and encouraged. Almost all students are intended to study in this education until graduation.

–       a  total mean was 4.2.
–       at the moment, I am a satisfied student mean was 4.1.
–       99.6 percent of students are intending to study in this education until graduation.

The best total means were in the following Master’s degree programmes:

–       Project and Sales Management, Kotka 4.4.
–       Leadership and Development in Youth Education, Mikkeli 4.3.
–       Information Management and Digital Archiving, Mikkeli 4.3.
–       Acute Care, Kotka 4.3.
–       Business Operations in Forestry, Mikkeli 4.3.

The best means were in the following statements:

–       the cooperation with the staff 4.5
–       the cooperation with the students  4.4
–       the students in my education are being heard and encouraged  4.3.

–       The available courses at Xamk are interesting 4.2
–       Xamk offers a high standard of teaching 4.2

–       The campus town seems to appeal 3.4
–       Xamk stands above other Universities of Applied sciences 3.5

Net promoter score (NPS) “How likely you would like to recommend Xamk to a friend or acquaintances?” was 41.

The reasons why would you recommend Xamk?
The quality of teaching, the flexibility of study, versatility, teachers are professional.
