The application time was open until mid May 2020, but we started filling in the positions on a rolling basis, i.e. as soon as we find good team members, the positions were filled.

The internship projects will be for study credits (opintopiste). The amount of credits depends on the duration of the project. Most projects will be for 3 months, e.g. end of May until end of August, some may start flexibly.

If needed, affordable student housing is available in Kotka.

Stockfors Alive thru Visualisation and Gamification

Bringing historical Stockfors to life! The beautiful riverside area of Stockfors in Pyhtää, Finland is a living part of our region's industrial history. The people behind Stockfors today - the municipality of Pyhtää, Pyroll Ltd. and Stockfors House - welcome you to their project, where we will build a visual, informative world that opens from an URL link. The chosen student team received a project brief and relatively free hands to develop their vision. Old picture materials and historical information is available. The team consisted of 3 to 4 students.

Colombier: Developing Quality Systems

Colombier is a packaging company that is innovatively developing plastic-free solutions. They welcome a student team to assist in developing and implementing their internal processes linked to the ISO22000 quality standards. From their side, a truly positive & dynamic person who is used to working with student teams lead the project. The project was very much a hands-on learning process, and you will learn new, practical skills in quality, production and safety processes - always useful when applying for future jobs. The Colombier production facility is in Pyhtää, Finland. Transportation solutions are available from Kotka to Pyhtää, and large parts of the project may be done online.

Heating and Electricity Development for JuKi Kotka Locations

Kotkan Julkiset Kiinteistöt JuKi is responsible for running the real estate locations of the City of Kotka. Many of the locations are rented to local busienss owners. Both local businesses and JuKi want more precise information about the capacity of the heating and electricity usage in JuKi locations. In the internship, students performed measurements and calculations at different JuKi owned locations in the city of Kotka, leading to reports and recommendations. The student project team consisted of 2 to 3 students.

Kotka Mills: Evaluating Fiber Recycling Internationally

Kotka Mills is known for innovation in plastic-free packaging. They were looking to welcome a 3 to 4 student team to map and evaluate fiber product recycling processes in different market countries. The team members will each be allocated certain international fiber markets to evaluate according to Kotka Mills instructions and needs. The project meetings and reporting will be in English. It is possible to do the project almost entirely online, Kotka Mills was holding regular online meetings with the student project team.

Maritime Centre Vellamo: Cooling System Development

Inspecting and developing the efficiency National Maritime Centre Vellamo's cooling and AC systems. How could the maritime centre's large spaces be cooled in a more economic and ecological manner? The project was in cooperation with Kotkan Julkiset Kiinteistöt Oy JuKi. The was for 1 to 2 students with technical background.

XAMK: Online Events Development

XAMK needs you! ASAP! The ongoing corona crisis means that cooperation events and projects between businesses and students are going online. Are you good at keeping projects on time? Do you feel confident being part of a virtual team? You should not be afraid of using online tools and systems, including Slack management and web streaming and marketing. Planned online activities include crisis hackathons, summer project management and organizing workshops online. We are interested in various skills, and your work profile may be adapted to your business and/or tech talents.

Vaka: Business Development & Marketing

The duo behind Spilhus Finland Oy has previously built one successful online business, and they are now building a new brand concept around the brand VAKA. Vaka creates and produces toys, interior items and textile goods for children's rooms. The brand works only with natural textile materials and wood, guided by their emphasis on ethical production and gender equality. They were looking for a summer internship team of 2-3 students to work with them on business and brand development, both in Finland and in other EU countries . This included building new markets and customers, and development and content for their new online web product portfolio.
