Application from open path to degree studies
Application on the basis of studies completed at Open UAS
You can apply from open path to degree studies at Xamk after you have completed the following amount of studies in an Open University of Applied Sciences in Finland:
- min. 60 credits of bachelor-level studies or
- min. 15/60 or 30/90 credits of master-level studies (depending on the extent of the degree).
The application can be submitted even if the required credit amount is not yet recorded in the study register. The required credit amount must, however, be recorded by the end of the semester (31 December or 31 July).
Please note that other university-level studies or prior degree studies in a Finnish university of applied sciences cannot be considered in the application process.
When applying for a master’s degree programme, you must in addition meet the general eligibility requirement for the studies (suitable higher education degree and a minimum of 3 years’ work experience).
The degree programme you apply to must be the same where you have studied in as an Open student.
If you are selected for the degree studies through joint application or through the application from open path to degree studies, you will continue your studies according to your personal study plan. All credits completed through Open path studies are transferred to the degree studies.
The suitability of Open path studies completed outside Xamk (or Kymenlaakso or Mikkeli UAS) is individually considered.
Application open twice a year
There are two application periods for the applicants from open path to degree studies: 1-15 October and 1-15 May.
- If the student selection is not based on the entrance examination used in the joint application, the application is processed within 1 month.
- If you are admitted as a degree student, you must accept the study place and enroll as a student by a given deadline.
- The right to study as a degree student generally starts from the beginning of the next academic semester (autumn or spring).
Application form and required enclosures
The application form is submitted at Studyinfo.fi service. You can find Xamk degree programmes in English on Studyinfo.fi through this link.
Attach a certificate about the completed Open UAS studies (transcript of records) to your application form.
If you are applying to a master’s degree programme, please also attach the following documents:
- a copy of the higher education degree certificate that gives you the eligibility for the studies
- copies of work certificates.
How students are selected
Depending on the programme, the student selection may be based on the amount of credits completed in the open path, the grade point average and/or entrance examination. The entrance examination may be the examination used in the joint application or e.g. an interview.
The joint application entrance examination is used primarily in the degree programmes in the field of social services and health care.
The admission is conditional
The admission is conditional until Xamk has checked the certificates used for applying (studies completed at another UAS than Kyamk, Mamk or Xamk and the educational and work certificates related to master’s degree programmes). The study place can be withdrawn if you have given false information. To make sure you don’t lose the study place, remember to accept it by the given deadline.
Request for adjustment
According to the legislation in Finland, an applicant has a right to request for adjustment to the decision concerning student selection within 14 days of publishing the results of student admission.
If you believe that there has been a mistake in the student selection and the admission criteria have not been applied correctly, you must first contact admission services at the university of applied sciences where the student admission decision has been made. If the decision was made at Xamk, contact: email@example.com.
If this does not clarify the matter, you can make a written request for adjustment to the decision regarding student admission.
A request for adjustment must specify the name and contact information of the person making the request, the decision that the request for adjustment concerns, the points of the decision that adjustment is sought for and the grounds for the request for adjustment. If necessary, supporting documents can be attached to the request.
