Mikkeli Campus is located at a former military base with beautiful buildings and surroundings. It has a truly international atmosphere as there are over 300 foreign students from many different countries on campus every year. There are 3500 students and 300 staff members at the campus all together.

On Mikkeli campus there are three bachelor’s degree programmes which are taught completely in English: Environmental Engineering, Information Technology and Wellbeing Management.

In addition, there are foreign exchange students who come to study in Mikkeli every year.

  • Laptop for studies: Check Xamk requirements for your own laptop fitted with a web-cam and a microphone (head-set)
  • Username for Xamk services: Get your username as instructed on the New Student’s website (> Username for Xamk services). The usernames are available in the authentication service from 2 August 2021 onwards. You will need to have the username and password at use when the studies begin.
    • If you don’t have a Finnish ID number, you will receive your username from the student affairs office after by email 2 August but by 13 August at the latest.
    • If you have a Finnish ID number but don’t have online banking codes from a bank in Finland to access the service with, please request your username from the student affairs office via https://xinfo.xamk.fi. The usernames are available from 2 August onwards.
  • Xamk online orientation: Get to know studying and IT tools at Xamk as well as services available for students with Xamk online orientation before starting your studies. The course is available from 2 August onwards. Check the instructions here!

Your eligibility for the studies has been verified either from the national database in Finland or from the certificate copies submitted on the application form. In case there is something unclear about your qualifications or certificates, you may be asked to present the original certificates in the beginning of studies.

Implementation of studies

In the Environmental Engineering programme at Xamk, the first, third and fourth study years are delivered fully online.

The second year of studies (appr. August 2022 – May 2023) has a very strong practical orientation and is delivered as full-time studies on Xamk Mikkeli Campus. This study period is a mandatory part of the degree and requires your presence in Mikkeli, Finland.

Xamk online orientation course

Get to know studying and IT tools at Xamk as well as services available for students with Xamk online orientation before starting your studies.

Xamk Orientation course can be found from 2 August onwards at Xamk Open Learn environment: Xamk Orientation Autumn 2021. To join the course, log in with your Xamk user credentials and accept the site policy. The enrollment key you need for joining the course is XAMK21. After successful enrollment, the link to the course page can be found on your Learn dashboard-view.

Working with the materials and tasks might take 5-15h, so it’s highly recommended to work with one topic at a time. All your marks remain even if you log out. When you have finished all tasks, you can print and save yourself a certificate to be used as part of the Study and career planning course. Welcome!

Mikkeli

Student accommodation in Mikkeli

Degree students arrange housing themselves prior to their arrival in Finland, Xamk cannot offer accomodation to students.

  • Student housing in Mikkeli:
    Mikkeli Student Housing Ltd (MOAS): www.moas.fi
    Most of the student residences have the basic furniture including bed, desk, chair, and table and benches in the kitchen. Make use of all the second hand shops available for other things you will need: mattress, pillow, blanket, dishes etc!

Getting to Mikkeli

  • If you are travelling via Helsinki Airport, you most likely will prefer to use a train connection.
  • If you are coming from Helsinki city center or other cities in Finland, please, check Matkahuolto or Onnibus web-pages for the options.
  • If you are arriving from St. Petersburg, you can consider taking the Allegro train to the Kouvola train station with a connection to Mikkeli travel centre.
  • Try to arrange your flight or other arrival in Helsinki early enough so you can reach Mikkeli not too late in the evening.
  • You should arrive in Mikkeli at least 2-4 days before the studies begin.
