All instructions for applying to degree studies
Read moreSouth-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, Xamk, is one of the biggest universities of applied sciences in Finland. We offer degree studies in English and Finnish as well as studies that do not result in graduation. We also offer language studies and higher education preparatory studies for immigrants.
Finland has two types of higher education institutions: universities and universities of applied sciences (UAS).
Universities of applied sciences (UAS for short) offer professionally oriented higher education on bachelor’s and master’s level, and have strong ties with working life and regional development.
Universities focus on scientific research and the education they provide is based on it. They offer bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral (PhD) level studies.

In response to the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine, Xamk offers several study possibilities for Ukrainians:
The studies mentioned above are for Ukrainians who have fled the war in their home country and arrived in Finland. The Ukrainians living in Finland who have arrived in the country before the war, are also entitled to this opportunity.
Read more about the study possibilities by clicking the links above. Both bachelor and master studies are taught in English.
The Joint Application is open for those who have completed an upper secondary level diploma (high school). The requirement for Master’s degree programmes is a suitable higher education degree and at least two years of relevant work experience after completing the degree.
If you cannot submit documentary evidence of your qualification when applying, you can submit a copy of the decision on asylum or a residence permit granted on the basis of a need for protection in Finland.
Xamk offers a scholarship for humanitarian reasons for the citizens of Ukraine for the academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.
The scholarship is an exemption from the tuition fee for the mentioned academic year (first study year).
You don’t have to apply for the scholarship separately, it is granted automatically based on proof of citizenship on your application form (passport ID data page). On the application form on Studyinfo, you inform if you have a document that exempts you from the tuition fee. The question is common to all universities and the answer “I don’t have any of the above mentioned documents” will not cause any problems with the scholarship for humanitarian reasons at Xamk.
Both bachelor and master studies are taught in English.
The next application for a separate study right at Xamk has not been confirmed. You can apply for a study place in Joint Application. The degree studies are based on a personal study plan where your prior higher education studies are considered.
The separate study right is available for Ukrainians who already have a study place in a University / Academy / Higher Educational Institution in Ukraine. This study opportunity is aimed at students who have an existing, valid right to study at a Ukrainian university, and whose studies have been discontinued due to the war.
Studies in the separate study right are free of charge for the student.
The separate study rights are granted based on the compatibility of applicants’ earlier studies with those offered by Xamk UAS and English language skills. You must satisfy specific academic and language requirements (online English language test).
Xamk Open University of Applied Sciences is known as Xamk Pulse. Our courses are available for all, regardless of age or educational background. On Xamk Pulse courses you can update, expand and deepen your expertise. Most of the studies are carried out online and many of them are free of charge.
