Xamk organises a supplementary application during 31 July – 7 August for the studies beginning in August 2017: you can then apply for the study places still available after joint application in spring 2017. 

Information on the supplementary applications in all higher education institutions can be found on Studyinfo.fi service. Supplementary applications may be arranged during 3 July – 30 August, the application periods vary in different institutions.

Degree programmes you can apply to in the supplementary application:

Bachelor of Engineering, Information technology, Mikkeli campus
Master of Business Administration, International business management, Kouvola campus

 

Timetable for the supplementary application at Xamk

  • Application period 31 July – 7 August 2017. The application closes on the last day at 3 pm (Finnish time).
  • The required enclosures must be delivered to the admission service on 7 August 2017 at the latest.
  • Entrance examinations are organised on 15 August (information technology) and 18 August (international business management). Invitation to the entrance examinations is sent by email.
  • The admission results are published as soon as possible after the entrance examination.
  • Admitted students must confirm the study place within two weeks of publishing the results.
  • The studies begin in August: information technology on 21 August and international business management on 31 August. Instructions for beginning the studies can be found from our website for new students at www.xamk.fi/new-student.

Instructions for applying in supplementary application

Application form

Fill in the application form at www.studyinfo.fi. You can find the application form by clicking the link for the degree programme on the top of the page.

You can select 1-6 study programmes on the application form. The order of preferences is not considered in the supplementary application.

On the application form, you need to provide your personal information (Finnish ID code, if available) and details of your qualification (name, year/date of completion, institution). Fill in the application form carefully with correct information, the service guides you in submitting the application. Submit the application for Xamk degree programmes in good time before the deadline Monday 7 August 2017, 3 pm (Finnish time).

If you have already accepted a study place from a study programme beginning in autumn 2017 in a higher education institution in Finland, you cannot accept another study place in the degree programmes in supplementary application.

Changing information on your application form

You can make changes to your application options only during the application period. Changes can be done by logging into My Studyinfo service www.studyinfo.fi (access possible with Finnish internet banking codes, a mobile certificate or an identity card issued by the police provided with a chip and a reader) or by contacting the admission services in the UAS you have applied to. Removing or adding study programmes on the application form cannot be done after the application has closed but updates on other information on the application form are possible.

Inform all changes in writing (e.g. by email) to the admission services. Include your application number, full name and the changes you wish to make on the application form in your message.

Enclosures

The required documents must be submitted through our electronic service by the application deadline, on 7 August 2017 at the latest.

Copies of qualification certificates

Submit certificate copies if you apply (required documents):

  • with a qualification completed outside FInland (copy of original degree certificate and its official Finnish/Swedish/English translation)
  • with an EB, IB or Reifeprüfung Diploma (copy of qualification certificate)
  • to Master’s degree programme (copy of bachelor’s degree certificate, including transcript of records, and employment certificates for at least three years of work experience after completing the bachelor’s degree).

Copy of document exempting from tuition fees

The tuition fees concern non-EU/EEA degree students who start their studies in English-taught Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in August 2017 or after that. Submit a copy of the document exempting you from the tuition fee by the given deadline. Citizens of Finland are not required to provide proof of their citizenship as it will be verified from the population register.

You are exempted from paying tuition fees if you provide a copy of one of the documents:

  • Passport or identity card to indicate the citizenship of EU/EEA/Switzerland
  • Continuous residence permit card in Finland, Type A permit or
  • Permanent residence permit card in Finland, Type P permit or
  • EU residence permit for third-country citizens with long-term residence card in Finland (Type P-EU) or
  • EU Blue Card in Finland or
  • EU Family Member’s Residence Card in Finland

Bachelor’s degree programmes (information technology)

You can apply to a Bachelor’s degree programme if you have completed

Admission criteria

The students are selected using two different methods: 30% of the students are selected on the basis of points received from entrance examination (max. 40 pts) and school performance (max. 60 pts) and the remaining 70% solely on the basis of points received from entrance examination.

Those applying with Finnish or international matriculation examination (EB/IB/RP diploma) can be selected through either one of the two methods. Those applying with other qualifications, e.g. Finnish vocational qualifications or non-Finnish qualifications, can only be selected on the basis of points received from entrance examination.

The student selection is always conditional until the university of applied sciences has checked all qualification certificates used for applying. The admission may be withdrawn if the certificates are not delivered by a given deadline or if the applicant has given false information on his/her qualifications.

Master’s degree programmes (international business management)

You can apply to this Master’s degree programme if you have completed

  • an UAS Bachelor’s degree in the field of business and administration or other appropriate higher education degree and
  • at least three years of subsequent work experience in a relevant field.

In addition good skills in the English language are required. Your language skills are evaluated in the entrance examination.

Work experience

The work experience can be accumulated as from the date of award of the final degree certificate and obtained no later than 31 August 2017.

Work experience should be indicated in full months. When converting part-time work into its full-time equivalent, 150 hours or 20 working days lasting at least 7 hours per day correspond to one month of work. Work experience does not have to be continuous or obtained working for the same employer. The amount of work experience points awarded for simultaneous employment relationships may not exceed the amount awarded for full-time employment.

Entrepreneurship is accepted as work experience if you can produce a certificate attesting that you have been covered under the statutory YEL or MYEL pension scheme in Finland. Enterprising activities abroad should be substantiated with comparable official documents.

Military or non-military national service, women’s voluntary military service or child-care leave will not be counted towards work experience.

Admission criteria

Entrance examinations

Information technology, Mikkeli Campus

Date and time: Tuesday, 15 August 2017, 12.00-15.00

Place: Mikkeli Campus, Patteristonkatu 2, Building M (Mikpoli), 50100 MIKKELI

The entrance examination is a written test of 3 hours. It includes tasks in mathematics, logical deduction, physics and learning prerequisites (minimum 10 out of 40 points is required). The examination includes an integrated evaluation of English language skills (assessed pass/ fail).

Applicants must meet the minimum point requirement and pass the language evaluation in order to qualify for admission.

 

International business management, Kouvola Campus

Date and time: Friday, 18 August 2017, 9.00-15.00

Place: Kouvola Campus, Paraatikenttä 7, 45100 KOUVOLA

The entrance examination in International business management degree programme includes a written exam and an interview. The applicants’ English language proficiency will be assessed in the entrance examination. The applicant must score at least 20/100 points in order to qualify for admission.

Entrance examination locations

In supplementary application, the entrance examination must be completed for the degree programme you are applying to, examinations completed in other UAS are not accepted.

The examinations are only arranged in Finland and it is not possible to take part in the examination at other location than the one provided.

It is possible to apply with an equivalent examination result completed in joint application in spring 2017 by informing the Admission services about it by email on 7 August 2017 at the latest.

 

Special arrangements

You may request for special arrangements for taking the entrance examination on particular grounds. Further information available on the website for Entrance examinations.

The request for special arrangements in supplementary application must be submitted to Admission services as soon as possible, on 7 August 2017 at the latest.

Appeal

According to the legislation in Finland, an applicant has a right to request for adjustment to the decision concerning student selection within 14 days of publishing the results of student admission.

If you believe that there has been a mistake in the student selection and the admission criteria have not been applied correctly, you must first contact admission services at the university of applied sciences where the student admission decision has been made. If the decision was made at Xamk, contact: admissions@xamk.fi.

If this does not clarify the matter, you can make a written request for adjustment to the decision regarding student admission.

A request for adjustment must specify the name and contact information of the person making the request, the decision that the request for adjustment concerns, the points of the decision that adjustment is sought for and  the grounds for the request for adjustment. If necessary, supporting documents can be attached to the request.
