Learning outcomes:

  • The student knows the structure and function of the foot and is familiar with good foot care habits.
  • The student learns how to take care of her or his feet and knows the factors that threaten foot health.
  • The student understands that some diseases like diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and skin diseases make the feet vulnerable.
  • The student understands diabetics' foot problems and the need for screening and risk classification at least once a year.

Contents and methods:
The course content consists of four topics, which are:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the foot, 1 ECTS credit
  • Healthy feet, daily foot care and proper shoes, 1 ECTS credit
  • Diabetic foot, rheumatoid foot, foot skin diseases, 2 ECTS credits
  • Risk foot examination, treatment, and off-loading, 1 ECTS credit

The course includes learning assignments, discussions and tests. Dates and return schedules are displayed on the Learn online platform

The course covers 5 ECTS credits, totalling 135 hours of student work. The number of hours is theoretical and varies according to student effort.
