Target group: All that are interested in these studies. If you have already completed MODULE III of Diploma of HE Tourism & Business management in Autumn 2020, don't enrol on this! This is exactly the same module.
Required previous skills: The student has to have a fluent skills in English and readiness to study online independently on University level.
Device: You need a laptop or PC, smartphone or tablet is not enough.
Credited in degree: All degrees at Xamk (optional studies)

Note that you can enrol for Open UAS studies at the maximum of 50 ECTS credits per semester. One person’s enrolments exceeding 50 ECTS credits are deleted in the enrolment order. Paying attention to this is important when planning your studies.

Please notice, that
Xamk degree students cannot enroll on OUAS courses.

ECTS credits
ECTS credits represent the workload and defined learning outcomes (“what the individual knows understands and is able to do”) of a given course or programme. One credit equals 27 hours of student's work.

PRODUCING HIGH QUALITY SERVICES
The goal is to provide students with knowledge of food safety and related legislation, in professional kitchens in European Union, and, tools to maintain the level required with self-monitoring plan. 'Producing high quality services' gives the student knowledge of recognizing global business opportunities and analyzing market areas. It provides understanding of influences of economic policies on the function of the different sectors of society.

This training adds knowledge of selecting international business operations, suited for different international business environments. It also gives tools for designing, producing and evaluating opportunities for well-being tourism.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Well-being tourism

What is the key terminology in well-being tourism? What is Finland’s well-being tourism strategy, mission and vision? What is the significance of art and culture in well-being tourism? What is the role of food in well-being tourism? How do you utilize technology? How do you design, produce and evaluate products and services in this sector?

International business

What are the most important features in the international business environment? What are the company’s opportunities and prerequisites related to international operations?  What are the strategies of international operations? How to select the most appropriate operation model?

Food safety

Which food product regulations affect food safety and work in professional kitchens? Which are the risks related to handling, preparing, serving and selling food? How are the risks managed? How are food products handled and stored in a safe way? What are the responsibilities of food professionals according to the European Union legislation? What does a self-monitoring plan include and how is it implemented?

Economics

What does an economy consist of?  What is the theory of enterprise from the economics viewpoint? How do economic policies affect the various sectors of society?

This course is based on the curricula of Xamk's degree programmes and the Finnish credits are fully compatible with the ECTS.
