Juvenia started to operate as a development project funded by the European Social Fund and Southern Savonia Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment in the period from 2008 to 2010.
The aim was to strengthen the role of Mikkeli as a national and international centre in the field of youth education, research, development and knowhow. In addition, the aim was to create a new policy, education, research and youth development centre.
After the successful development project, Juvenia has become an established national organization of youth research and development. During the years of operation, Juvenia has carried out more than 50 regional, national and international research, development and education projects related to young people. For young people, this has meant an increase in equality and possibilities to be encountered in the environments significant to them. In addition, young people have learned working life skills. At the same time, the new unit has made it possible for the expert to work in the region.
In addition to regional and national development, Juvenia has been successful in competitive research funding – an area traditionally lead by universities. With Juvenia, the University of Applied Sciences has received funding from the Academy of Finland, the Kone Foundation and the Foundation for Municipal Development sr. as well as the Erasmus + Sport program and the Ministry of Education and Culture funding for sports science research.
Since the beginning of 2017, Juvenia’s dynamic research and development work is part of the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Science.
