Welcome to XAMK library services!
This page introduces the services provided by Xamk library. The mainstays of the library are independency, openness, and the sense of community. In order to keep the use of the library proficient, we ask you to abide by the common rules and instructions related to the services.
The library card can be picked up from your campus library. Please bring a photo ID when picking up the card. You can choose to use a Xamk library card or an existing card from another library or a student card with a barcode as your library card.
You can send your customer information for the library card beforehand.
The library card is personal, and as its owner you are responsible for all the material borrowed with it.
Please inform any changes to your personal or contact information to the library without delay. Also, inform the library if your card goes missing!
Your customer information is managed in compliance with the privacy policies specified below.
Materials offered by the library can be found in Kaakkuri database.
Kaakkuri includes materials obtained by the library (books, magazines and other materials), location and availability information and access to electronic materials (e-books, e-magazines etc.) and databases.
In Kaakkuri, you can make searches, renew loans, save materials as favorites, save searches and create alerts for new publications in the Xamk library materials.
You can borrow materials at a self-service point or at the customer service desk.
The loan period of materials is 14 days for students and outside customers, and 28 days for the staff.
You cannot borrow library materials if you have overdue fines or other fees add up to 5 euros or more, you have unreturned materials, or you have lost or damaged materials. You can continue borrowing when you have paid your fines/fees, returned overdue materials or replaced any damaged materials.
Loans can be renewed in Kaakkuri or at the customer service desk.
Consecutive renewals are limited to 20 times for the students of Xamk and outside customers. The staff can renew a loan 50 consecutive times.
In case you cannot renew your upcoming due loans because of e.g. a network failure or system malfunction, please contact the library.
You cannot renew your loans if the number of consecutive renewals has been reached, if there is a reservation on the material, or if you have payments due up to 5 euro or more.
Please return your loans at the self-service point or at the customer service.
You can return your loans to any Xamk library regardless of which Xamk library you have borrowed them from.
If there is a reservation on a material borrowed from another Xamk campus, you cannot use the self-service point. If the self-service point does not work, please return your loans to the returns box.
When the library is closed, please return your loans through the returns hatch on the library door or to the returns box by the library entrance.
The loans will be removed from your customer information during customer service hours.
A reservation can be made in Kaakkuri or at the Library’s customer service desk.
When you place your reservation online, the pickup will be from an open shelf inside the library. If you do not want your reservation to be placed on an open pickup shelf, you will need to make your reservation at the library’s customer service and pick up your reservation during the library’s service hours.
You can reserve any materials available at the Xamk campus library. Choose your own campus library or any other campus library as the pick-up point. The time of delivery for shelf reservation is 1-5 working days.
You will receive an email notification when your reservation is available.
Once the material has arrived, you can find it at the reserved materials shelf/cart or the library’s customer service and it will be held for you for 5 working days.
You will receive an email reminder of the approaching due dates of your loans, two reminders indicating that loans are overdue, and a notification indicating that your reserved material has arrived.
If you send the library a message through an electronic form, you will be answered via email.
You remain responsible for returning loans and paying overdue fines even if you have not received an email reminder of the approaching due dates of your loans.
The library is equipped with a system that enables customers to use the library independently outside opening hours. During the self-service hours, the library customer service desk is closed. The premises are monitored by technical surveillance systems.
During the self-service hours of the library, you can borrow and return material, pick up reservations, use the computers, read magazines and newspapers, and work.
Books, magazines, e-materials, work spaces (see library webpages for more information), self-service points for borrowing and returning, computers and multifunction printers (for students and staff of Xamk) are at your disposal.
You can access the library during self-service hours once you have saved a four-digit PIN code in Kaakkuri, or at the customer service desk, and once you sign in at the reader at the library’s main door with your library card and PIN code. Always sign in with your own library card, even if you enter the library in a group.

Instruction on information skills
At the beginning of the studies, an introduction to the library services and collection is arranged to all students. Training in information retrieval is integrated into different courses. Personal guidance on information retrieval is also available for students.
Training in library services, e.g. the use of e-materials, is available for Xamk staff. Customized training is also available on request.
Take a look at the library instructions! The instructions are suitable for self-study and they support the work of both students of different learning paths and staff.
On libguides.xamk.fi you can find instructions for information retrieval, guidebooks for different fields of study, instructions for e-books as well as instructions for open science and research and publishing. You can also find the contact information of the experts who teach information skills.
Make an interlibrary loan request, if you need a book or an article not included in the collections of the Xamk libraries or other local libraries. Fill in a separate form for each book/article.
The library supplies interlibrary loans to its customers from other national and foreign libraries. The lending library will set the due date. There might also be some other restrictions included in the loan, such as the loan might only be read within the library premises. Interlibrary loans do not show in Kaakkuri. They are renewed for you automatically, and we will inform via email when renewal is no longer possible and you have to return the loan.
Libraries can order loans from the Xamk library by filling in an interlibrary loan form or by sending an email request to the campus library in question. Fees and charges can be seen in ”Charges”.
