The homicide that took place on Raviradantie, Mikkeli on Wednesday 1 November touches South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk). According to the information we have, both the victim and the suspect are apparently students of Xamk on Mikkeli campus. This information has not been confirmed by the police.

The victim, a male student, is from Vietnam.

The police have arrested the suspect who is a 20 year old foreign man soon after the incident.

The police will give more information on Friday.

Crisis support for students and staff is available. There will be a separate info session for students on Thursday at 15 o’clock in Mikpoli auditorium.

Flags are flown half-staff on all Xamk campuses on Friday 3 November. There will be a minute’s silence on Mikkeli campus on Friday at 10.00 to honor the victim.

South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences expresses its condolences to victim’s families and fellow students. We are deeply shocked by this tragic incident.
