The coronavirus situation and the associated official recommendations and restrictions vary between the different campus cities. Changes in the situation may happen quickly. This news update explains the current situation based on the decisions made by Xamk’s Management Team on Friday morning 19 February.

Kotka and Kouvola

 

All theoretical teaching will continue remotely on  Kotka and Kouvola campuses until 31 March in line with Kymsote’s recommendation. Practical instruction, Paja workshop exercises, laboratory work and simulations are arranged on campus observing the safety instructions, with everyone wearing a mouth-nose mask.

Campus facilities and services such as the restaurants, Exam rooms for electronic examinations and libraries remain open. Restaurant opening hours are available at www.xamkravintolat.fi.

 

In Kotka, the gym is currently closed and group sports activities are cancelled. Kouvola campus has no designated sports facilities, and Xamk students and staff members can use facilities managed by Kouvola City. See the website of Kouvola City for information on the opening hours.

 

Mikkeli

 

As recommended by Essote, Mikkeli campus continues with remote teaching arrangements until 28 February. Practical instruction, laboratory work and simulations are arranged on campus observing the safety instructions, with everyone wearing a mouth-nose mask.

The Mikkeli campus gym is closed until 7 March 2021. All group sports activities are cancelled. Other campus services, including the library and the Exam rooms for electronic examinations, are open.

 

Changes in restaurant services on Mikkeli campus in weeks 8 and 9

 

Week 8 (22 February – 28 February 2021)

  • Restaurant Kasarmina serves as a so-called staff restaurant; it is only open to university of applied sciences students, Xamk staff and the pupils and staff of Urpola school on weekdays from 8.30 to 14.30. Higher education students can buy meals for take-away at the normal student price (meal subsidy). In the mornings and afternoons, Restaurant Kasarmina operates as a self-service café.
  • Restaurant DeXi is closed
  • Restaurant Talli is open on weekdays from 9.00 to 15.00.
  • Restaurant Stadiumi is open on weekdays from 9.00 to 17.00 at Saimaa Stadium.

Week 9 (winter break week, 1 March – 7 March 2021)

  • Restaurants Talli, DeXi and Kasarmina are closed.
  • Restaurant Stadiumi is open on weekdays from 9.00 to 17.00 at Saimaa Stadium.

 

 

Savonlinna

 

As previously announced, all teaching on Savonlinna campus will be arranged remotely until 7 March. The campus doors and services are closed until 7 March.
