The number of COVID-19 infections is growing rapidly in Finland and may reach their peak as early as the turn of January and February. In Kymenlaakso, the epidemic situation remains difficult, and the restrictions in the region are also tighter than those currently in force in South Savo.

Xamk continues its efforts to ensure the continuity of teaching and to protect its students and staff. As a result, the Management Team has decided that all theoretical teaching will be arranged remotely until 6 March.  Absolutely necessary contact teaching – such as simulation and laboratory exercises and Paja workshop training – is provided on campus, using the required protection. Our goal is that we could switch back to the normal teaching arrangements, specified in the curricula, from 7 March 2022 onwards.

The recommendation for the staff to work remotely continues until 6 March in all positions where it is possible.  Meetings are also held remotely during this time.

Changes to gym availability on campuses

The gyms on Mikkeli and Savonlinna campuses will be re-opened on 20 January, in accordance with the decision of the Regional State Administrative Agency for Eastern Finland. Whenever visiting any of the gyms, it is important to follow the safety instructions.

To access the gym on Mikkeli campus, students need an electronic key. You can apply for the key using the form available on Lux intranet. After applying, you will receive the key within 1-3 working days.

On Kotka and Kouvola campuses, the gyms and other sports facilities remain closed until 2 February in accordance with the decisions by the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland.

The Management Team is actively monitoring the situation in terms of what decisions the Regional State Administrative Agencies make on restrictions concerning sports and leisure facilities. If necessary, the Management Team will update its guidelines on using the facilities and arranging group sports activities.
