Regional Fire and Rescue Services are responsible for nearshore oil spill response and oil recovery operations. In order to improve their cold weather oil spill response capability, four Rescue Services on the coast of Gulf of Finland i.e. Kymenlaakso, Eastern-Uusimaa, City of Helsinki and Western Uusimaa Rescue Services initiated a joint project.
Objective of the project is to increase preparedness for oil spill incidents in ice-infested nearshore waters and on snow-covered shorelines. This project called WinterSOKO (TalviSÖKÖ A32372) is coordinated by Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences and funded by European Regional Development Fund ERDF.
