Please notice that Xamk’s lecturers do not assess completed courses nor enter the course assessments in Xamk’s record of credits (Peppi) during their non-teaching periods. In summer, completed courses will not be assessed between June 1st and August 18th, 2024. 

This course will also be offered in autumn 2024. Enrolment for the course will open in June.

  • How to recognize cultural differences based on comparing elements of your own national culture to other cultures?
  • How to communicate effectively in intercultural settings?

Intercultural communication and why do we need it
the components of culture (values, beliefs, (negative) cultural perception)
how to communicate effectively in intercultural settings
the ingredients of cultural identity
language, nonverbal codes and cultural space
culture shock and cultural adaptation
business cultures around the world

The course contains independent work, no group work or online live lectures.

The course covers 5 ECTS credits, totalling 135 hours of student work. The number of hours is theoretical and varies according to student effort.

The study material is provided in learning environment.

Assessment: 
Students can
a.use professional vocabulary systematically.
b. work as team members in a goal-oriented way.
c. justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field.

The assessment is based on individually completed tasks and quiz in each section of the course.
