BioTechDemoDesign

Sustainable Technology and Bio-based Innovations

The development of utilisation for food industry side streams promotes the circular economy and supports the ecosystem development of the food industry in Kymenlaakso region.

Planetary design and food innovation

BioTechDemoDesign

3D printing of biomaterials, food technology testing and analysis equipment, mycolab equipment, and microbiology and robotics solutions create a technological foundation for innovation activities in Kymenlaakso region.

The project relies on the design expertise of Xamk’s Creative Industries Research Unit (CIRU), the food and life cycle expertise of the LUT University, Kouvola unit, and educational cooperation in the degree programmes of food technology and design.

Design demonstrations increase knowledge of technology and raise development opportunities

Expertise and experience related to environmental impact assessment and the utilisation of advanced technologies and laboratory services, as well as digital demonstrations, ensure the sustainability of the product development and the competitive advantage achieved through it.

Workpackages

WP1 Coordination, Communication and Implementation

WP2 Biomaterial Based Design Demonstrations

WP3 Life Cycle Analysis in Product and Process Development in the Food Sector (LUT University coordinated WP)

WP4 Coaching on Planetary Design and Food Innovations

Coaching on planetary design and food innovations

The project will implement six information sessions, which will form a training series during the project. Suitable methods for implementation will be decided for the training series for a group of companies, including for example videos or webinars.

The workshops support the sharing of information between companies and the identification of opportunities for laboratory environments and cooperation with higher education institutions.

Workshops and innovation events related to sustainability, food innovations and product development will be organised. The workshops promote the identification of usable raw materials and side streams of the food sector, and produce blanks for demonstrations.

Design demonstrations and new technologies

The design demonstrations in the project are implemented according to the interest of the target companies in the following categories:

  • 3D printing of biomaterials and/or mould press demonstrations
  • Food process and manufacturing technology demonstrations
  • Food and Packaging Design Demonstrations

The raw materials to be utilised will be specified during the project measures based on the needs of the business community.
