Well-being is everyone’s right
Anxiety levels among Finnish youth, particularly girls, have risen to alarming levels. Mental health issues directly impact work capacity: disability pension applications among those under 35 due to mental health reasons have increased significantly, and many careers are cut short before they even begin.
Although society emphasizes a rapid transition into education and employment, many young people first require support for their mental health and daily functioning. Current services do not reach everyone in need, and the societal costs of mental health disorders run into the billions.
The mental health crisis among young people calls for new solutions
This research project addresses the decline in youth mental health and the growing risk of work disability by seeking new, effective approaches to strengthen well-being and inclusion.

The aim of the project
The aim of the project is to provide up-to-date information to support decision-making and the development of service systems regarding which arts-based models are effective, how they support the well-being of young people, and how they can be integrated into the services provided by well-being regions, municipalities, and organizations.
The project is being carried out by the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, Mixed Methods Productions Oy, and the Center for Cultural Policy Research (Cupore). The project is funded by the Government’s research appropriations.
