Experimental environments for climate-responsible outdoor structures – Ilmastovastuullisen ympäristörakentamisen kokeilumiljööt

Experimental environments for climate-responsible outdoor structures facilitate the development and implementation of construction solutions that minimise the emissions caused to the environment in construction, material cultivation and its use in various environmental applications.

The experimental environment is a climate-responsible platform for construction

The project will produce solutions that enable the development of environmental construction solutions that sequester carbon and mitigate the effects of climate change, promoting regional carbon neutrality and the realisation of related business opportunities.

Instead of conventional building materials with a large carbon footprint, the development of experimental environments supports the utilisation of locally produced biomaterials, such as hemp, cattail, reed, nettle, clay and mycelium.

For example, the removal of lake reed from waterways also has an important environmental management perspective. The project solves the challenges of business reorientation and innovation activities in the peat sector and related sectors, as well as the environmental sustainability of construction and urban development, together, thus effectively promoting sustainable development and the regional green transition.

Urban development, construction, biomaterials and art.

The effects of the project’s measures will be reflected as business potential through the creation of new companies and the continuation and renewal of existing business into the regional economy.

The main measures of the project

  • promote product development and business in climate-responsible environmental construction,
  • identify drivers and obstacles to the commercialization of environmental construction solutions based on locally produced raw materials,
  • produce pilot structures, reference sites and construction guidelines for use by operators,
  • involve operators in co-development and strengthen RDI networks,
  • create and establish pilot environments as platforms for business-led RDI activities in Kymenlaakso.
