A novel bio-based fire protection technology
Objectives
The objective of the FireSafe project is to develop and commercialise a bio-based fire-safe solution for use in construction and other applications.
The project focuses on optimising the bio-based formulation to meet key safety requirements, such as B-class fire performance, and to support the solution’s readiness for the market.
A sustainable alternative to harmful flame retardant (FR) compounds
At the same time, the project assesses the solution’s suitability for environmental certifications and green building requirements, and promotes the transition from laboratory-scale development towards a solution that is scalable both technically and commercially. In addition, the project explores business models suitable for commercialisation to support future development.

Results
As a result of the project, an optimised bio-based fire-safe solution will be developed that meets key safety standards and is suitable for multiple application areas. The project will also produce an assessment of the solution’s environmental suitability and its readiness to meet the requirements of eco-labels and green building schemes.
Furthermore, the project will deliver a commercialisation study examining different business model options and their applicability to future business development.
