Securing the future with resilient information
The project supports the digitalization of businesses and archives by providing concrete, scalable digital information management solutions to enhance information resilience.
The project also seeks to map and develop methods and technologies that ensure the reliability and long-term availability of information. It improves the ability of businesses and memory organizations to manage and protect their information assets, thereby increasing business continuity and reducing risks.
The project will be implemented as a joint project between Xamk, the National Archives of Finland and Central Archives for Finnish Business Records (ELKA).

Background
Our security environment has undergone a long-term change. The Finnish Government’s decision on security of supply in October 2024 highlights the importance of digital data assets as critical infrastructure.
Our digital environment can become polluted even more easily and quickly than our physical environment. Realized risks related to digital information – such as distorted or outdated data or the loss of business‑critical information – may endanger a company’s survival and lead to reputational harm and major financial losses.
According to the World Economic Forum, mis- and disinformation remain the most significant societal threat.
The project helps companies and archives respond to challenges related to digital information resilience and the changing information environment by supporting the protection of data now and in the future.
Project objectives
1. Support the resilience of companies and archives by increasing awareness and providing practical tools for assessing and strengthening the resilience of digital information
2. Map and develop methods and technologies that ensure the accuracy and reliability of information, including in exceptional circumstances and over the long term
3. Promote the responsible use of digitalisation in companies and public–private partnerships from the perspectives of security and sustainability, taking into account the requirements of increasing regulation
4. Strengthen the City of Mikkeli’s position as a hub of comprehensive security by developing expertise and solutions related to the resilience of digital information, and by integrating these into the regional security ecosystem and cluster collaboration
5. Identify future RDI (research, development and innovation) needs from the perspectives of information and cyber security, as part of comprehensive security and the catalysation of new business
The key actions of the project
1. Mapping information resilience and strengthening stakeholder collaboration
2. Information resilience operating models
3. Tools and proof-of-concept implementations for advancing information resilience
4. Continuity of information resilience
The project results
The project’s practical results for companies and archives include a review of digital information resilience, a risk analysis tool, development paths for improving information security practices and technological solutions, proof-of-concept implementations and pilots, and a curated collection of tools to ensure the reliability, preservation, and usability of information.
Project impacts include improved ability to manage and protect information assets in businesses and archives, enhanced business continuity.
The project results and tools will be publicly available on the Memory Lab website and through South Savo clusters.
