Water Safety – A smart piloting environment for developing water safety
The Vesiturva project develops an innovative, intelligent alert system for real-time monitoring of drinking water quality and detection of harmful substances to meet the needs of the water supply sector.
Resilient water services – a safer everyday life
Strengthening water security
The goal of the Vesiturva project is to develop, with the help of artificial intelligence, a cost-effective and scalable online monitoring system that enables early detection of changes and contaminants in the water network. The solution will be piloted in cooperation with the City of Mikkeli, Mikkeli Waterworks, and local businesses.
The project aims to enhance research and innovation capacity within the municipal sector, water utilities, and SMEs, and to accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies.
Vesiturva project supports companies and water utilities in acting to mitigate climate change while strengthening water safety.
Project Work Packages
WP1. Regional and national initiatives in water safety
WP2. Situation analysis and needs assessment of the water supply network
WP3. Design and definition of the pilot system
WP4. Agile development and piloting of the online system
WP5. Communication and reporting
Project Results
The project will result in a new concept for a water supply alert system. The developed scalable monitoring solution will improve resilience and promote the safety of water distribution networks.
The results of the Vesiturva project support:
- Development of research and innovation capacity
- Adoption of advanced technologies
- Principles of sustainable development and the EU Water Resilience Strategy
- Security of supply, water resilience, and environmental safety
The project also strengthens the activities of the BEM Competence Centre and contributes to the innovation ecosystem agreement between the City of Mikkeli and the Government of Finland.
