Cybersecurity and Game Technology Research Unit

The growing use of game technologies in all industries creates innovations that require new skills. Threats related to information security are affecting more and more people, and the importance of preparedness is emphasized. Game technologies and cybersecurity are a significant part of the digital society as a whole.

We create safe digital future.

Excellence in game technology and cybersecurity

Xamk has several research projects in which our experts develop and apply game technologies and cybersecurity. In our game technology projects, we focus on utilizing game technologies in the development of various virtual environments and digital twins, as well as related simulations and training environments. Virtual environments are currently being used, particularly in urban planning, preparedness, comprehensive security, and development of virtual emergency driving training environment.

In our cybersecurity projects, we develop and test security practices and technologies, organize exercises, and offer education and coaching in various areas. Our experts work closely with local businesses and industries. We also engage students in the field through research and development projects, offering internship opportunities and thesis topics.

We organize annual events that have garnered widespread interest among various stakeholders. Key events include international Xamk Game Track, focused on game technologies and held in Kotka, as well as Kybertuska, a cybersecurity event.

Game technologies act as an engine for new skills

Game production combines technology, creativity and sales and marketing skills. In addition to entertainment games, game technologies are increasingly part of the future of various industries, such as construction, education, healthcare and industry.

Our projects meet the needs of the game industry. In the projects, we focus on game programming, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). In addition, we offer expertise in business development in the game industry and in supporting the internationalisation of game companies.

Cyber security helps protect critical operations

The importance of cyber security is increasing, and its role in protecting critical business operations, for example, is crucial.

Xamk implements several RDI projects related to cyber security, which aim to improve the information security capabilities of companies and society. In the projects, we focus on the following areas:

Network and system security: We develop and test security practices and technologies.

Cyber security exercises: We simulate cyber attacks and practice countering them together with companies.

Information security training: We offer training and coaching in different areas of cyber security, so that companies can improve their own information security skills.
