Mechanical testing of materials and structures
Static and dynamic testing, analysis and characterization of materials and structures using state-of-the-art equipment
To support your product development and quality control needs
Versatile testing services
Mikpolis has calibrated load frames with a force range of -300…300 kN. A variety of load cells (force transducers) are available for a range of measurement ranges to ensure sufficient accuracy. We perform static and dynamic tests at different temperatures, with a test temperature range of -130 to 350 °C.
Mikpolis carries out mechanical load tests from standard specimens to bending tests of over 14 meters’ span. We manufacture fasteners required for deviating test methods and needs by CNC machining in our laboratory. We have universal machines for machining wood, metals and various plastic alloys.
We use Charpy impact tests to determine the impact strength of materials. We can also use different types of drop test equipment to investigate the effect of pre-damage on mechanical properties.
The most common test sensors used for tensile measurements:
- strain gages
- extensometers
- LVDT sensors (Linear Variable Differential Transformer)
- draw-wire sensors
The most common test equipment used for static and dynamic tests:
- Shimadzu AGX-V 250/300 KN load frame
- MTS Landmark, 100 kN load frame
- MTS 318, 100 kN load frame
- MTS / Matertest, 250 kN load frame
- Instron 8872, 25 kN load frame
- Charpy impact testing equipment
- Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers and micro-Vickers surface tension testers
Common standards used for static and dynamic tests:
- tensile: ASTM D638 / ISO 527, ASTM E8 / ISO 6892, ASTM D3039 / ISO 527, ASTM D198 / EN 408, ASTM D3916
- compression: ASTM D695 / ISO 604, ASTM E9 / ISO 6892, ASTM D6641 / ISO 14126, ASTM D198 / EN 408
- bending: ASTM D790 / ISO 178, ASTM D7264 / ISO 14125, ASTM D256 / ISO 180, ASTM D198 / EN 408
- cutting: ASTM D 5379, ASTM D 4255, ISO 4587, ISO 14129, ASTM D 905
- fracture toughness / crack growth: ASTM D 5228, ASTM D 6671, ISO 15024
- stretch / relaxation: ASTM D2990 / ISO 899, ASTM E139 / ISO 204, ASTM D198 / EN 408
- impact resistance: ISO 148, ISO 179
Mikpolis expertise
We also have removable test rig for bending poles. This test rig has been developed by Mikpolis and it can be transported – even overseas. The test specimens are loaded up to the breaking load. The equipment can bend poles up to 12 meters with a maximum force of 50 kN.
The product certification testing of wooden poles according to EN 14229 is carried out in cooperation between Mikpolis and Control Union Finland Oy.
The bending test equipment for wooden poles has been successfully used in the project of Optimizing the service life of modified wood pole products – MOPUKO.
