External evaluation
Xamk’s quality system was audited by The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC).
The purpose of the audit is to ensure that Xamk complies with national quality assurance criteria and general European guidelines.
Xamk’s quality system was audited by The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC) and was awarded a quality label that will be valid until 2033. Also, Xamk was added to the Audit Register for Higher Education Institutions.

South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) participated in the pilot phase of the fourth cycle of Finnish higher education audits. The audit was conducted by the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC) in spring 2026 as part of the national quality assurance framework for higher education institutions.
The audit confirmed that Xamk’s operations and quality system meet the national quality requirements for higher education institutions and comply with European quality assurance standards and guidelines. As a result of the successful audit, Xamk was awarded the FINEEC quality label, which is valid until 2033.
The audit report identified Xamk’s key strengths as its strong regional impact, close cooperation with working life, and strategically managed research, development and innovation (RDI) activities. According to the report, Xamk plays a significant role in the development of its operating region.
Additional strengths highlighted in the audit include an open and inclusive organisational culture, effective leadership and quality management, and a comprehensive offering in continuous learning. The audit recognised Xamk’s ability to respond flexibly and efficiently to changing competence needs in working life through a diverse and adaptable educational offering.
The audit also identified areas for further development. Based on the findings, Xamk will continue to strengthen the evaluation of educational quality, the systematic use of feedback data, leadership structures, risk management, and the integration of education and RDI activities.
The audit was carried out by an independent external audit team appointed by FINEEC. Representatives of Xamk’s students, staff, and stakeholders participated in the evaluation process.

Other external evaluations
In addition to the FINEEC audit, we also participate in other external quality evaluations. For example, some of our laboratories are accredited. In addition, success in externally evaluated and managed project and thesis competitions is a good indicator of Xamk quality.

Evaluation of education in the maritime sector
Finnish Education Evaluation Centre has evaluated the quality management of the maritime education at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences 2022.
The evaluation was carried out by an evaluation team appointed by the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre. It focused on assessing whether the quality management of the maritime education at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences is compliant with the requirements of the STCW Convention.
Based on the evaluation, the maritime education provided by South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences is compliant with the requirements of STCW A-I/8.
