Xamk’s sub-programme and Work package 3
South-Eastern Finland UAS, Xamk, was responsible for the main project’s Work package 3 that focused on increasing international students’ engagement in studies and providing them with better opportunities to network with South Savo employers. This work package especially targeted international degree programme students at the start of their studies through the following three key activities.
three key activities:
1) producing and piloting a course called Multicultural career skills in Finland: This Moodle-based, mainly online course of 3 ECTS credits was piloted two times with Xamk’s students of Information Technology. After the project, in the autumn 2026, this first version is carried out again as part of IT students’ mandatory course. In addition, its second version − tailored for the students of Water Technology and Sustainability − is carried out as an optional course. Further information on the course in Finnish is available in a project staff’s blog, in two articles by the project’s Career Counsellor and Project Specialist (pages 104−111, pages 18−23) and by contacting the Project Manager.
2) studying the needs of South Savo employers and strengthening the networking opportunities between employers and the target group students: This was accomplished for example through arranging two events − Ideailtapäivä and Idea afternoon 2 − in cooperation with Xamk’s integration activities and members of Mikkeli University Consortium and by participating in events and discussions arranged by other projects, project networks and parties involved in promoting international students’ attachment to South Savo.
3) efficient communication and strengthening the cooperation network of the five project partner higher education institutions: One of the key achievements in this was completing Xamk’s part for the project consortium’s common online studies − Monikulttuurisuuden osaaja korkeakoulussa − that aims at promoting Finnish UAS staff’s competence in working in culturally diversifying environments of higher education. Xamk’s sub-project’s part in these online studies was produced in cooperation with Xamk’s expert of student wellbeing.
