Co-funded by the EU

CyberCare Kymi

The project offered a network, free tools, and a learning environment for the social and healthcare sector.

The funding was granted by the Kymenlaakso Regional Council, with co-financing from the European Union.

Ensuring cybersecurity is crucial as business resilience requires support. For instance, it is essential to strengthen business continuity capabilities and networks that support the economy.

The healthcare sector plays a pivotal role in Kymenlaakso’s economic structure. However, the industry necessitates modernization, particularly with the adoption of new digital solutions.

Healthcare organizations must possess cybersecurity preparedness to ensure operational continuity even in the event of disruptions. This is paramount when dealing with sensitive customer and patient data and acting as a service provider for the well-being region.

Who? Why? How?

Objectives

The project aimed to develop the healthcare sector’s operating environment and promote research and development (R&D) activities based on the needs of businesses. In particular, the project supported the continuity of SMEs’ operations and developed new service concepts. National and international R&D activities were increased to improve cybersecurity in the healthcare sector.

The project prepared an operational concept for a cyber crisis management hospital training environment. For example, such an environment could later be implemented by utilizing Xamk’s existing training hospital facilities. The hospital training environment was conceptualized in such a way that it could utilize the scenario exercises carried out in this project and Xamk’s VirtualLab.

Actions

  • Initiating networks
  • Collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • A web-based study environment tailored to the healthcare sector

What we did

Digital Networks in Social and Healthcare

Digital Networks in Social and Healthcare

The CyberCare initiative aimed to establish a network for enhancing cybersecurity in the social and healthcare sector. This network brought together small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), public entities, educational organizations, and organizations supporting social and healthcare entrepreneurship to share knowledge, expertise, tools, and collaboration opportunities both regionally and nationally. Robust networks empowered businesses to adapt to both regulatory requirements and unforeseen digital challenges.

Online Courses and Scenario-Based Training

Online Courses and Scenario-Based Training

The second work package of the project focused on gathering information from social and healthcare SMEs through workshops focused on topics such as business continuity. Based on this information, the preparedness and knowledge level of companies were improved.
Tailored online courses were created for social and healthcare entrepreneurs to help them overcome risks and cyber crises. Similarly, the scenario exercises most suitable for the companies were developed and piloted.

Shaping the Future!

Shaping the Future!

The project took an active approach to cybersecurity by developing a concept for a cyber crisis management training environment. This environment served as a platform for healthcare professionals to hone their skills and enhance their preparedness in the face of cyber threats.
