International Work Mikkeli (IWM)

Bringing international talent into working life

Xamk focuses especially on supporting the employment of highly educated international talent. We develop and test services that support job seeking and make the transition into working life easier.

Project objectives

The goal of Xamk’s part of the project is to help highly educated international talent find employment in the Mikkeli region. We aim to strengthen their job-seeking skills and make the transition into working life easier.

We develop and test services that support job seeking. Our goal is also to create a clear and practical pathway from job seeking to working life. The services are developed together with other organisations in the region.

At the same time, Xamk contributes to the overall goal of the International Work Mikkeli (IWM) project: to support the employment of international talent and help them build their future in the Mikkeli region.

International Work Mikkeli is implemented in cooperation with the City of Mikkeli, South Savo Vocational College Esedu and Mikkeli Development Miksei Ltd.

Who are Xamk’s activities for?

Xamk’s activities are primarily aimed at highly educated international talent in the Mikkeli region who:

  • are unemployed and looking for work, or
  • are currently outside the labour market and have not yet started looking for work.

The target group may include, for example, highly educated people who have arrived in the region through international protection, as well as highly educated spouses of international students.

Are you a highly educated international living in the Mikkeli region? Are you looking for a job or planning to start your job search?

What we do

Support on your path to working life

We provide personal guidance for highly educated international talent. We help participants identify their skills and support needs and plan their path towards working life. The activities also include group mentoring.

Make your skills visible

We strengthen job-seeking skills and help participants communicate their skills and expertise. In workshops, participants practise job seeking and prepare to meet employers.

Bringing talent and employers together

At project events and company visits, international talent can meet employers from the Mikkeli region. We also help job seekers connect with employment opportunities and support their transition into working life and a new job.

Smoother pathways to working life

Xamk develops a clearer pathway from job seeking to working life for highly educated international talent. Services are developed together with participants and other organisations in the region.

Xamk also contributes to the development of International House Mikkeli services and evaluates how well the developed approaches work and what impact they have.
