Mind Over Screens – Empowering Youth in the Digital World

Mind Over Screens is an Erasmus+ Capacity Building in the Field of Youth -project that aims to strengthen young people’s ability to navigate the digital world safely, responsibly and confidently. Mind Over Screens addresses the opportunities and challenges of young people’s digital lives by strengthening:

  • digital citizenship and participation
  • media and digital literacy
  • critical thinking and responsible online behaviour
  • online safety, privacy and cybersecurity awareness
  • digital well-being
  • young people’s ability to recognise and respond to online risks, such as misinformation, cyberbullying, online scams and harmful digital content.

The project also enhances the competences of youth workers, educators and other youth professionals, enabling them to better support young people in developing safe and responsible digital practices.

I work as a Senior Researcher at the Youth Research and Development Centre Juvenia. I have a doctorate in social sciences (University of Tampere in 2003), and my strongest areas are youth studies, disability studies, research related to professionalism and social relations in working life, and the methods of cultural studies.

In youth research, I am most interested in the themes of social inequality, the status of young people classified as minorities, and youth cultures.
