2,776 new students will start at Xamk in August

At Xamk, students are supported in integrating into the higher education community and adapting to a new phase of life through various support measures. Students have access to, for example, different sports groups, information sessions, events and discussion support. New students are also supported by tutors, i.e. students from previous year groups, who help with getting to know fellow students, the campus and the campus town by organising events outside school hours as well. 
 
International students arriving in Finland are also supported by integration coordinators, who provide guidance on matters such as finding accommodation, getting to know Finnish culture, integrating into our society and building personal networks, so that studies in a new country and unfamiliar culture can get off to the best possible start. 

Students on four campuses and online 
 
New students will begin studies in bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes on four campuses or in online studies, in both Finnish- and English-language programmes. 
 
In Kotka, 630 new students will start their studies, 66 of whom will pursue a master’s degree. A new master’s degree programme in engineering will begin in Kotka: Future Energy Efficient Systems. taught in Finnish. As a new English-language programme, Kotka will also offer the Master-level health care programme Advanced Practice Nursing in Acute Care. 
 
In Mikkeli, 621 new students will start their studies, 133 of whom will begin studies towards a master’s degree. New programmes starting in Mikkeli include the building services and automation engineering programme, which combines expertise in building services engineering (HVAC) and electrical and automation engineering, as well as the English-language programme Tourism and Hospitality Business. The new Finnish master’s degree programmes in Mikkeli are: Geographic Information in Forestry and the Environment, and Nature-Based Wellbeing Services Developer. 

In Savonlinna, we will welcome 261 new students, 37 of whom will begin studies towards a master’s degree. A new Finnish master’s degree programme in Safety and Security Management will begin in Savonlinna, responding to the growing need to develop organisations’ risk management, preparedness and continuity management. 
 
In Kouvola, 532 new students will start their studies, 112 of whom will pursue a master’s degree. New programmes starting in Kouvola include the master’s degree programme in social services and health care: Finnish taught Multidisciplinary Strengthening of Childhood and Youth, as well as the English-language Bachelor-level programme Business Analytics and Master-level programme Virtual Production. 
 
A total of 732 students will begin fully online studies, 345 of them in master’s degree programmes. New online programmes include the English-language Bachelor of Culture and Arts, Game Design, and the Finnish-language multidisciplinary master’s degree programme Future Studies and Foresight. 
 
Continuing students will return to their studies on 31 August.
