Development forums – students’ voices are heard
Did you know that students at Xamk can actively contribute to the development of education? Development forums (KeFo) provide students, staff and the Student Union with a common meeting place. These participatory events offer students an opportunity to influence the development of education. Some development forums may also involve alumni, who contribute perspectives gained from working life.
Development forums support a sense of community as well as interaction between students and staff. They provide an interactive way to discuss student feedback and to consider and agree on concrete actions to achieve desired changes. They also offer an opportunity to jointly address current themes related to studies and reflect on their impact on studies and working life. Development forums are participatory and future-oriented events.
In the video, students share their experiences
- students’ opinions and experiences are taken seriously
- everyone has an opportunity to take part in the discussion
- the shared discussion strengthens students’ sense of belonging to the university community
- feedback can lead to concrete changes, such as clearer instructions for practical training.
The video also features views from the Director of Education and Student Union Kaakko on why student participation matters. All of Xamk’s departments of education organise one or more development forums at least once per academic year. Staff are responsible for the arrangements and invite students to participate.
