Below is a list of May Day events organized by student associations and Xamk Student Wellbeing in our campus cities.


Kotka


Tuesday 28 April:

10:30–13:00 Student Wellbeing May Day event on campus

Come and make your own May Day mug and meet Student Wellbeing staff and partners on campus.

17:00 Climbing pre-party hosted by Kotkankiipeily Seura and Meteli ry. Boulderverstas, Mussalontie 428 B, 48310 Kotka

All you need is a good vibe and a relaxed attitude! You can also put on your student overalls.

Thursday 30 April:

  • 11:30–12:00 Capping of Popov and speeches by Kotka student associations in Isopuisto Park, hosted by koIO ry
  • 12:00–13:00 “Sima yoga” after the capping ceremony, hosted by koIO ry, Isopuisto Park
  • From 16:00 onwards: May Day celebrations incl. games, park sitsit and great company! Isopuisto Park

You can bring your own drinks to today’s events and wear your student overalls. This event is for everyone and is free of charge! The first 100 participants will also receive an overall patch.



Mikkeli


Tuesday 21 April
at 15.30-18 VappuSport at Saimaa Stadium
The event offers an extraordinary opportunity to try different sports, see the renovated facilities, and spend active time together with other students.
During the afternoon, you can explore the renewed SuperPark Mikkeli, try wallclimbing and bouldering, and play pickleball and badminton.
At SuperPark will be held competitions, with activity bracelets as prizes. The gym will also be open throughout the event.At Xamk Active Life Laboratory you can check your body composition and test your strength at leg press test.
The event is free to attend with a student card, and no pre-registration is required. Every participant will receive an overall patch!


Monday 27 April
May Day appro (pub crawl) and overall baptism. The event starts at 16:00 at Kirkkopuisto Park and ends at 21:00. You pick up the appro sheets from Kirkkopuisto; participants don’t need anything with them except a kide.app ticket to receive the appro pass. The appro includes bar stops and checkpoints, so it can also be completed partly by doing the checkpoint tasks around Mikkeli city centre. The finale is the overall baptism once all stamps in the pass are collected.

Tuesday 28 April
Yard games in Kirkkopuisto Park and bar games at After Bar. Both activities take place at the same time, so you can choose based on your budget or preferences. You don’t need anything except a cheerful mood. Exact timing and more details on Miomikkeli’s Instagram.



Wednesday 29 April

Savonlinna

Friday 24 April
16:30 Freshers’ baptism at Savonlinna Market Square; you need two drinks of your choice. After that, a house party in the former OKL premises at Kuninkaankartanonmäki starting at 18:00. Bring your own drinks. Dress code: theme outfit + student overalls. Tickets on kide.app: €6 incl. entry to the event plus pizza, snacks and a drink. Afterparty at Höyry.

Saturday 25 April
From 16:00 Disney marathon sitsit at Savonlinna Art Upper Secondary School. Bring your own drinks. Dress code: theme outfit + student overalls. Tickets on kide.app: €10 incl. a three-course meal and an overall patch. Afterparty at Höyry.

Sunday 26 April
From 14:00 Sunday Sauna + student picnic in the inner courtyard of Xamk’s Savonlinna campus. Two barrel saunas and a hot tub on site. Bring a towel, swimwear, flip-flops, a picnic blanket and picnic snacks. Dress code: student overalls. The campus pastor sponsors the event with doughnuts and sima.

Monday 27 April
“Pussikalja” appro 18:00–21:00. Bring 12 unopened deposit-return bottles/cans. Dress code: student overalls. Afterparty and pass checking at Olga from 21:30. Tickets on kide.app: €6 incl. an overall patch and appro pass. Afterparty at Olga.

Tuesday 28 April

Savonniemigames 17:00–21:00. Start in front of Savonniemisali. You need a team of 3–6 people. Tickets on kide.app: €9/participant incl. task booklet, overall patch and small snacks. NOTE‼️ One person from the team buys the ticket for the whole team and acts as the team contact person. Dress code: student overalls. Afterparty at Olga.

Wednesday 29 April
Quiz and bingo at Sokos Hotel Seurahuone, meeting room Luoto, from 17:00. Dress code: student overalls. Bring your own pen.

Thursday 30 April
Procession and capping of the Black Ram. The procession leaves from Xamk Savonlinna campus (Door C) at 17:30 towards the Black Ram. The capping ceremony and the traditional May Day speech will be held at 18:00 in Tallisaari. This year’s student speech will be given by the student union of South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, Kaakko. 🐏 In the evening, for those who have purchased a ticket: Robin’s gig at House of Olaf, doors at 20:00 and show at 22:00. Dress code for both: student overalls.
