Continuing student
This website provides information for the students who are absent (enrolled for non-attendance) from their studies and therefore do not have access to Xamk systems. In addition you can find links for the application for restoration of study right and for the renewed right to study on this website.
Enrolment and study continuation
When you are returning to your studies after the non-attendance, please contact your Studies Coordinator in order to check your study plan or the Student Affairs Office (Xinfo) on your campus in other study-related practical issues.
When you return to your studies after an absence, your username will be available when the semester changes, i.e., after 1 Aug or 1 Janin the authentication service. To activate your account access, you must authenticate and then set a new password for your account. After setting the password, wait a moment and then try signing in to the systems and enable multi-factor authentication (MFA). If you encounter issues, please contact ICT support viaXinfo.
The academic year runs from 1 August to 31 July. Every student must register each academic year as either present or absent in accordance with the registration schedule.
The academic year runs from 1 August to 31 July. Every student must register each academic year as either present or absent in accordance with the registration schedule.
- New students: 7 April–9 July 2026
- Continuing students: 7 April–1 September 2026
During the periods mentioned above, students can change their registration status by contacting the Student Services Office (Xinfo).
If a student wishes to change their registration status for the following spring semester, they must contact the Student Services Office (Xinfo) by December at the latest.
Note: Returning to studies in the middle of the academic year often causes challenges, as the availability of certain courses included in the studies may change or be more limited during the academic year. After a period of absence, the student must contact their own student advisor immediately.
- Registration as present or absent is completed in Xamk’s Peppi system via Welcome – Liferay (Peppi → Studies → Registration for the academic year).
- Students who have previously been registered as absent in Peppi must register using a separate form: Registration form for absent students.
Note
- Only a student registered as present has the right to complete studies, receive credits recorded in the study register, and obtain guidance related to their studies. A student must always register as present when completing studies that are part of the degree, including during student exchange, practical training, and the preparation of the thesis.
- A student who has not registered as either present or absent loses their right to study. A student who has failed to register has the right to apply for the restoration of right to study. If the maximum study time has already expired, reinstatement of the study right is no longer possible.
Student enrolled for non-attedance
- has no right to use Xamk credentials or any systems that require a login with Xamk credentials.
- has no right pursue studies (at Xamk or Campusonline) during the time of non-attendance.
- has no right for the KELA financial aid or the daily supported meal.
- is also not entitled to any student benefits (e.g. travel discounts, use of the school’s internet facilities etc.).
If a student has previously been registered as present and then registers as absent, their user account will be deactivated. After that, the student will not be able to log in to any systems using Xamk credentials, and their email mailbox will be closed (with a 30-day delay, after which the mailbox will be emptied). When the student returns from the period of absence, the user account and email (empty) will be reactivated for use.
The study place at Xamk is retained during a period of absence. Xamk contacts absent students in the spring, when the student receives information by email about registration for the next academic year. The student resumes their studies by registering as a present student in accordance with the registration instructions.
Students who are liable to pay tuition fees for the studies do not have to pay the fee for the semesters enrolled for non-attendance. The scholarship scheme that was valid at the time of admission is followed throughout the whole study time, also when returning to the studies after non-attendance.

Guidance, evaluation and degree regulations
The purpose of assessment is to support the achievement of the competences that have been set as the objective of the degree programme. The assessment of learning at Xamk is based on the learning outcomes (knowledge-based competence, skills-based competence, teamwork skills/leadership skills/readiness to take responsibility) of the European and National Qualifications Framework (EQF and NQF) as well as on the university’s generic and programme-specific learning outcomes. The assessment criteria applied at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences is based on the EQF and NQF frameworks. A completed course is graded on a scale from 1 to 5 or given the mark H (pass), and a failed course is given the mark 0 (zero). Grade 1 is the approved level.
Accredited and substituted studies are marked with H (pass) if a numerical grade is not applicable. All supervised practical training that aims to improve the student’s professional competence, is assessed according to the scale pass/fail and the final thesis according to the scale 0–5. The maturity test included in the final thesis is assessed on a pass/fail-basis.
Grading scale:
- 5 = Excellent
- 3-4 = Good
- 1-2 = Satisfactory
- 0 = Failed
- H = Passed
The student’s learning is also evaluated by assessing the learning outcomes of modules. This can take place as self-assessment by the student. Modules are not graded; instead, the purpose of assessing them is to view learning outcomes as larger entities than courses and to help you to reflect on the progress of your learning in a wider perspective.
