Norowareta Game Trailer – Bringing Ideas to Life with Virtual Production
The Norowareta: The Three Treasures game concept was originally created by Xamk Game Design alumnus Christopher Solis during his studies. The story follows Lumi, who has grown up in Finland but is haunted by visions connected to an attack in a shrine in Japan. The development of the game continues, and a demo version is currently available on Steam.
The game trailer project explores how virtual production (VP) and LED wall technology can be used to create immersive storytelling by blending digital environments with physical sets in real time. The themes within the game were brought to life through a combination of real-time digital environments and carefully crafted physical elements. The virtual environments and physical set pieces were designed entirely based on the Norowareta game, ensuring a consistent visual identity across formats.
Planning for the trailer began months in advance, bringing together expertise from game development, videography, virtual production and set design. The pre-production phase lasted several weeks and included building physical sets, creating 3D virtual environments, developing detailed shooting plans, and conducting test shoots to ensure a seamless integration of all elements.
More than just a game trailer
What makes the project particularly compelling is its hands-on, multidisciplinary nature.
The team worked not only with digital tools but also collaboratively built physical sets, props, and costumes. From detailed visual elements such as foam-crafted shrine doors and custom designed and printed t-shirt on the actor, the production merges craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology in a very tangible way.
The Norowareta trailer is ultimately more than just a game trailer—it is a co-creation process where creativity, technologies and professionals from different fields come together to create something fantastical.
This project, supported by Time for (S) Heroes by Xamk, highlights the power of combining creativity, technology, and teamwork to turn ideas into powerful visual experiences. Finally, this is the first VP project made at Xamk based on a video game IP created
during the studies.
