Number of international applicants increased in the autumn joint application
A total of 7,063 applicants applied to South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, Xamk, in the autumn joint application. Of these, 2,973 selected Xamk as their first-choice study option. The figures are preliminary, as the numbers for applicants to English-taught degree programmes will still be specified.
The overall attractiveness rate of all degree programmes, meaning the number of first-choice applications per study place, was 2.6. This autumn, Xamk offered just over 12% more study places than a year earlier, with a total of 1,160 places available.
– International interest in Xamk continued to grow. The number of first-choice international applicants increased by around ten per cent in the autumn joint application, and they now account for nearly one fifth of all first-choice applicants,” says Katri Ryttyläinen-Korhonen, Vice President, Education.
Eighty per cent of first-choice applicants came from outside Xamk’s core region. The largest share of first-choice applicants came from the Uusimaa region.
- Uusimaa: 20%
- International applicants: 19%
- Kymenlaakso: 11%
- South Savo: 9%
- Pirkanmaa: 7%
Familiar degree programmes among the most attractive options
Among the Finnish-taught Bachelor’s degree programmes, the most attractive were programmes delivered as online studies: Bachelor of Social Services, Social Services; Bachelor of Business Administration, Information Technology; and Bachelor of Business Administration, Business Management, which had two study options.
Among the Finnish-taught Master’s degree programmes, the most attractive were also online studies: HR, Communication and Leadership; Crisis-Resilient Health and Social Care; and Digital Marketing Management. Degree programmes focusing on the development and digitalisation of social and health care services also attracted strong interest.
English-taught degree programmes available through two application routes
Most of the English-taught degree programmes included in the autumn joint application were also available through Rolling Admission. Rolling Admission is Xamk’s own flexible application route for international applicants.
Based on the combined number of applicants from both application routes, the most popular English-taught Bachelor’s degree programme was Bachelor of Business Administration, Digital International Business, offered in Kouvola. Bachelor of Engineering, Game Technologies also proved highly attractive.
Among the English-taught Master’s degree programmes, the most popular was the multidisciplinary Disaster Management programme offered in Kotka. International Business Management and Digital Industry and AI also attracted a large number of applicants.
Student selection timetable
The results of student selections will be published at different times depending on the selection method. All results will be announced no later than 19 November, and studies will begin in January 2027.
