Xamk strengthens Mikkeli’s international higher education offering with new English-taught degree programmes

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Digital International Business programme leads to a bachelor’s degree, while International Business Management, Master of Business Administration (MBA) leads to a master’s degree.

Xamk’s first English-taught master’s-level programme in Mikkeli

Both programmes will be offered as full-time studies in Mikkeli.

The Digital International Business (BBA) programme will offer 40 study places, and the degree can be completed in 3.5 years.

The International Business Management (MBA) programme will also offer 40 study places, and the degree can be completed in approximately 1.5 to 2 years. International Business Management will also be Xamk’s first English-taught master’s-level programme in Mikkeli.

The decision to launch the programmes was made by the Board of South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences Ltd.

International talent for the needs of regional businesses and organisations

The new programmes support Xamk’s goals of increasing internationalisation, growing the number of international students, and strengthening the vitality of South-Eastern Finland.

“Mikkeli needs international talent and opportunities for them to study, find employment, and build their future in the region. These new programmes support our goal of increasing the number of international students and professionals in South-Eastern Finland, while also strengthening Mikkeli’s position as an international university city,” says Katri Ryttyläinen-Korhonen, Vice President, Education.

The Digital International Business (BBA) programme is designed for applicants who want to build expertise in digital and international business, marketing, and trade. The studies provide competencies for careers in international business, marketing, and commerce.

The International Business Management (MBA) programme is intended for applicants who already hold a higher education degree and wish to develop their expertise in international business, leadership, and organisational development.

“The new programmes create an international study pathway all the way to the master’s level. We hope that companies and organisations in the Mikkeli region will actively seize the opportunity to collaborate with students and benefit from their international skills and perspectives,” says Ari Lindeman, Director of Education.

Xamk develops new international collaboration opportunities

Xamk is also preparing to join the international Design Factory network coordinated by Aalto University. The aim is to utilise the network’s innovation, project-based learning, and industry collaboration models in the new international business programmes, as well as more broadly across Xamk’s education activities.

The international network built around Aalto Design Factory includes higher education institutions from around the world.

Application period opens in November

Applicants can apply through the Rolling Admission process intended for international applicants, which will open in mid-November. The programmes will also be included in Finland’s first joint application period of spring 2027, which takes place in January 2027.

Studies in both programmes will begin in Mikkeli in autumn 2027.
