Connecting Future Engineers with Industry
Industry collaboration is embedded throughout the programme. Students work with real-world engineering challenges, gain access to modern laboratory environments and learn from industry-driven project assignments. The curriculum has been designed in dialogue with employers to reflect current technologies, processes and competence needs.
Norelco, a key player in the energy sector
Founded more than 60 years ago, Norelco designs and manufactures switchgears, substations and transformer stations that support critical infrastructure across Finland and the Nordic region. The company’s solutions are used in data centres, hospitals, renewable energy projects and other essential energy systems.
Headquartered in Savonlinna, Norelco employs approximately 350 professionals representing 14 nationalities. The company operates in both Finnish and English, creating an international working environment where talented professionals from different backgrounds can succeed.
According to Olli Malinen, HR Manager at Norelco, international talent plays an important role in the company’s future growth:
“We have 14 different nationalities working for Norelco, and we have two official languages, Finnish and English. Master one of those, and you can work for us.”
Growing opportunities for engineering talent
Norelco is investing strongly in future growth and is planning significant expansion in the coming years. As the company grows, the need for skilled engineering professionals continues to increase, creating new career opportunities for graduates entering the field.
For students, this means studying in a programme that is directly connected to the needs of industry. The collaboration helps bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice, providing valuable insight into the expectations and opportunities of working in electrical engineering and product development.
From studies to career opportunities
The partnership between Xamk, Norelco and the City of Savonlinna forms a strong foundation for developing future engineering expertise in the region. By learning in an environment shaped together with industry, students gain practical experience, professional networks and a deeper understanding of real engineering work.
High-performing graduates may also be considered for employment opportunities at Norelco, offering a direct pathway from studies to working life.
For anyone interested in modern energy systems, product development and industrial innovation, the programme provides a unique opportunity to study alongside an industry partner actively shaping the future of electrical infrastructure.
