The course is open to anyone interested. Whether you’re a game design student, an educator, or a gamer.
💡What
An online course about educational games. During the course, the goal is to create one playable prototype of a digital or board or card game.
The course introduces you to the “educational” aspect of educational games, but you don’t need to have previous experience in making games to join. The prototype will be relative to your skills, so it can be done digitally or by pen and paper.
You will get access to all study materials on Open Learn. We also provide challenges from our teachers you can work on solving.
The course is free but requires registration. Registered participants will be invited to join the course via email.
⏰ When
The course is open 1.2.–30.6.2026. During this time period, you can get feedback on course activities and develop your game prototype.

🐶 For who
For Xamk’s students and anyone interested in developing educational games.
The course is organised by Learn to Play for the Future project, funded by the European Union.
We want to increase student engagement in schools by introducing innovations in educational game development and gamification.
During the course, we would also like to ask your opinions on how to enhance and develop the course further into an electable course about educational game design.
Participating in these surveys is optional, but it will greatly help us in creating an interesting course for the next year.
