The goal of the Stones for Circulation project is to activate the construction industry and the concrete industry to utilize the region’s R&D actors and environments in their product development and in renewing their own operations. The project’s measures help the region’s industry to maintain its competitiveness now and in the future.
By increasing the utilization possibilities of concrete waste and side streams suitable as binders, the profitability of the companies that produce/process them will also be improved. With the help of the results and know-how accumulated during the project, new business opportunities, value chains between companies, operational opportunities for new companies to join the value chain and jobs created in companies are created for companies in the region and industry. The project focuses on finding solutions for the beneficial use of recycled materials, side streams and waste in concrete so that the carbon footprint of concrete production can be reduced.
This opens up opportunities for new business and start-ups utilizing bioproduct design. The processing of industrial side streams into a sufficiently uniform, active form for use in the production of cementless binders, as well as the production and packaging of the actual binders, open opportunities for new players to join the value chain of concrete production and thereby also promote the birth of new businesses in Kymenlaakso. The impressive and well-known RDI activity and environment created as a result of the project’s measures will enable the expansion of the RDI infrastructure in the future, the development of competence will contribute to the attractiveness of the area from the point of view of companies as well.
