Top 6 tips to entrance exam
Prepare for the entrance exams and make a difference!
1. Get the information in advance
If the entrance exams include pre-selection material, start reading it as early as possible. If there is no prerequisite material, revise the general subjects you have already studied. Allow time to absorb the information: learning is a slow process. If the test includes mathematical problems, practise them beforehand by calculating.
2. Find out the facts beforehand
Read the invitation and information for the entrance exams carefully. Find out how long the exam will take and what the different parts of the exam are. Find out about the contents of the entrance exam for your field of study on the uasinfo.fi website. If you are unfamiliar with the location of the entrance exam, you can find out about it in advance, for example by using a map application. This will reduce the stress on the entrance exam day.
3. Take care of your wellbeing
The entrance exam is an effort that takes energy and strain. Make sure you exercise, rest and do nice things in the days leading up to the test to reduce stress and help you cope. When you are tired, your memory, concentration and alertness are poor. You will be able to demonstrate your skills better when you are refreshed and satisfied.
4. Turning nervousness into strength
Embrace nervousness – it’s part of the game! If you weren’t nervous at all, the situation probably wouldn’t be important to you. Treat yourself gently, it’s normal to feel nervous. You can learn how to ease tension, for example through breathing exercises: a long exhalation relaxes your body. You can also try rehearsing an exciting situation in your mind beforehand.
5. Read the assignments carefully
In the entrance exam, read each assignment carefully – several times. Make sure you understand the task. Answer what is asked. After answering, read the question again and check that you have answered the question correctly. In multiple-choice questions, cover the answers. This way you will not be confused by wrong answers. Trust your knowledge.
6. Don’t get stuck
There are time-limited tasks in the selection tests, so getting stuck on one task takes time away from the others. Don’t get stuck for too long on a task you don’t know how to do, but be brave and move on to the next one. If possible, return to the same section later. Do not rush out of the entrance exam. If you experience difficult emotions before or during the test, don’t be scared. They are part of the job. And don’t worry if you can’t answer every question. You don’t have to get all the answers right to get into university of applied
sciences.
Good luck for the entrance exam!
