The first joint application period for universities in spring 2024 has concluded, focusing on programs offered in foreign languages. At Xamk, the number of first-choice applicants increased by 13.5%.

There were 1,761 first-choice applicants to Xamk, compared to 1,552 last year. In total, Xamk received 7,393 applications.

The most attractive program was the Game Design program held in Kouvola, with 962 first-choice applicants. Following closely were the Digital International Business program in Kouvola, the Nursing program in Kotka, and the Information Technology program in Mikkeli.

In this application period, there were 6 bachelor-level and 2 master-level study options. Xamk plans to increase the number of English-language programs in the coming years.

–        The regions of South Savo and Kymenlaakso require more highly educated workforce. With a shrinking native population, there is an increasing need for education-driven immigration. International applicants will be crucial in the future, and I am very pleased that the number of first-choice applicants has increased in this application period, says the president and CEO, Heikki Saastamoinen.

Nationally, both the number of applicants and available study places increased this year compared to the previous year, with 1,000 more positions nationwide and a 4.8% growth in the number of applicants.

Selection Process

The selection process will continue with entrance exams held in February-March. Some programs will also select students based on academic achievements in May. All joint application results will be published no later than May 31, 2024. Studies are scheduled to commence in the fall of 2024.
