Application fee

Applicants who are not citizens of the EU, EEA, or Switzerland are required to pay an application fee when applying to higher education studies. If you are from outside the above-mentioned area and are applying to Bachelor’s or Master’s level studies in Finland, you must pay the application fee.

The application fee is EUR 100, and it must be paid within seven days of submitting the application on Studyinfo. An application is considered at Xamk only after the application fee has been paid.

Please note that the fee is collected by the Finnish National Agency for Education, not by Xamk. As a result, Xamk follows the application fee policy published on Studyinfo and cannot make exceptions to it.

Tuition fee

If you are liable to pay the application fee, you are generally also required to pay a tuition fee for the studies.

The timetable in Rolling admission is tight. If you are offered admission, you have three weeks to accept the offer and pay the tuition fee. The tuition fee must be paid by the deadline stated in the offer. Payments received after the deadline cannot be accepted and will be refunded.

Conditions for the Early Bird scholarship (10% discount on the tuition fee)

• accept the offer of admission within 1 week (7 days) from the notice of admission and
• pay the tuition fee with 10 % discount within 3 weeks (21 days) from the notice of admission.

Exemption from application fee and tuition fee

Please find the exempting documents listed on the above-mentioned websites (Studyinfo and Xamk’s tuition fee policy). If you have a document that exempts you from tuition fees, please note the following:

• You must upload a copy of the exempting document to your application.
• Higher education institutions check all continuous residence permits (type A) with the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri). This may result in you receiving instructions to pay the application fee (and the tuition fee) at a later stage of the application process.
• To be exempted from tuition fees, the exempting document must be valid when the semester starts on 1 August 2027.

Timetable

• Application opens: 15 November 2026 at 8.00 Finnish time
• Application closes: when the study places for a degree programme are filled, or on 15 February 2027 at 15.00 Finnish time at the latest. Degree programmes may close on different dates depending on when all study places have been filled.
• Studies begin in August 2027.

The applications are processed continuously and the admission result is generally published within three weeks from submitting a complete application, or even sooner.

In Rolling admission (August 2027 intake), all applicants must provide acceptable proof of English language skills.

The acceptable language certificates are:

IELTS Academic

Minimum requirement: a total score of 6.0 (Test sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking)

IELTS Academic UKVI and IELTS Online are also accepted.

Required documents: The official IELTS score report must be uploaded to the application form and the IELTS Test report form number provided. The test results must be verifiable from the online verification service of the test organiser at least two months after submitting the application. IELTS scores are valid for three years.

TOEFL Academic (iBT)

Minimum requirement: a total score of 60 for tests taken before 21 January 2026, or a total score of 3.5 for tests taken on or after 21 January 2026 (Test sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing)f 60 (Test sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing)

TOEFL iBT Home Edition is also accepted.

Required documents: The TOEFL score report must be uploaded to the application form and the TOEFL Appointment number provided. In addition, the test results must be delivered to Xamk from the test organiser. TOEFL scores are valid for two years.

PTE Academic

Minimum requirement: a total score of 55 (Test sections: Speaking and Writing, Reading, and Listening)

PTE Academic Online and PTE Academic UKVI are also accepted.

Required documents: The PTE score report must be uploaded to the application form and the PTE Score report code provided. The test results must be verifiable from the online verification service of the test organiser at least two months after submitting the application. PTE scores are valid for two years.

Cambridge English Scale Sore

Minimum requirement: a total score of 169 (Test sections: Reading and Use of English, Writing, Listening, and Speaking)

Only the following Cambridge language tests are accepted: B2 First, C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency

Required documents: The relevant certificate must be uploaded to the application form and the Statement of Results number provided. The test results must be verifiable from the online verification service of the test organiser at least two months after submitting the application.

Oxford ELLT (English Language Level Test)

Minimum requirement: a total score of 6.0 (Test sections: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking)

The Oxford ELLT (English Language Level Test) is accepted if it is completed on or after 1 July 2023. The Oxford ELLT Digital is also accepted.

Required documents: The Oxford ELLT certificate must be uploaded to the application form. The Test taker number and Certificate reference number must be provided. The test results must be verifiable from the online verification service of the test organiser at least two months after submitting the application.

TELC (The European Language Certificate) English B2-C1 university qualification

Minimum requirement: level B2 (Test sections: Listening/Reading/Language Elements, Writing and Speaking)

The European Language Certificate (TELC) is accepted if it is completed on or after 1 October 2021.

Required documents: The TELC certificate must be uploaded to the application form and the Attendee ID provided. The test results must be verifiable from the online verification service of the test organiser at least two months after submitting the application.

National Certificate of Language Proficiency (YKI) English

Minimum requirement: Grade 4 or higher on all the subtests (speaking, listening comprehension, writing, and reading comprehension)

Required documents: The relevant YKI certificate.

Upper secondary degree or higher education degree completed in English
in an EU/EEA country, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, United Kingdom, or the United States

The degree must be completed in English in one of the following countries:

• any EU/EEA country
• Australia
• Canada
• New Zealand
• Switzerland
• United Kingdom or
• the United States

Please note that

• Degrees completed at international schools or institutions located outside the countries accepted by Xamk for this purpose are not accepted as proof of English language skills, even if the degree is awarded by an institution in an accepted country.
• The degree must also be a qualification that provides eligibility for higher education in the country in which it was awarded.
• The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) completed in an IB World School in any country is accepted as proof of English language skills. Also the following IB-related documents are accepted: DP Course Results, IB certificate or IB Final Report completed in English, or completed English A HL/SL or English B HL/SL with a minimum grade 4 in the IB final examination.

The member countries of the European Union (EU) are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.

European Economic Area (EEA) consists of the member countries of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.

Required documents: The relevant degree certificate and transcript of records, as well as a document showing the language of instruction and the country where the studies were completed.

The language of instruction must be clearly stated in the official study documents, including degrees completed in countries where English is an official language. If this information is not included in the official documents, you must provide an additional certificate or letter issued by the university or educational institution.

Higher education degree completed in English in the listed countries, or doctoral thesis completed in English in any country

The degree must be taught and assessed entirely in English, and the language of instruction must be clearly indicated on the educational documents.

Degrees completed at international schools or institutions located outside the countries accepted by Xamk for this purpose are not accepted as proof of English language skills, even if the degree is awarded by an institution in an accepted country. In addition, the degree may not meet the requirement if it includes studies completed outside the accepted countries or studies conducted in a language other than English. For example, a degree may not be accepted if it is based on a diploma or other qualification completed in a non-accepted country, or if it includes studies completed in a language other than English.

Required documents: The relevant degree certificate and a document showing the language of instruction and the country where the studies were completed.

If information on the language of instruction is not included in the official study documents, you must provide an additional certificate or letter issued by the university or educational institution.

A doctoral degree completed in English in any country is also accepted as proof of English language skills. If you use a doctoral degree for this purpose, you must also submit the evaluation or examination report of the doctoral thesis.

SAT test, Evidence-based reading and writing section

Minimum requirement: a minimum of 500 points for Evidence-based reading and writing section

Only the new SAT (taken after March 2016) is accepted.

Required documents: The SAT score report must be uploaded to the application form. In addition, the test results must be delivered to Xamk from the test organiser.

GMAT/GRE test

Minimum requirement: a GMAT test total score of 450 points

The result for GMAT Focus Edition and GRE test results must be equivalent to the GMAT result. These results are converted to the GMAT result with a relevant tool:

Eligible diplomas and admission routes

The admission routes available to you depend on the qualification you use for applying. You can apply with one of the following qualifications:

• Upper secondary school qualification completed outside Finland that gives general access to higher education in the country where it was completed. 
  Cambridge International A Levels, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma completed in an IB World School or the European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma completed in a European School also meet this requirement.
  Admission routes: Certificate-based selection (requires an accepted language certificate, a sufficient grade average, and for Bachelor of Engineering degree programmes a completed mathematics subject) or SAT-based selection
• Previously completed bachelor’s or master’s degree
  Admission route: SAT-based selection only
• Upper secondary school qualification completed in Finland
  Admission route: SAT-based selection only

If you are graduating after the application period: You may apply with an official temporary certificate, provided that you can submit the final certificate and transcript by 13 July 2027. If the final certificate is not available by then, you may submit a certificate of graduation or another official document issued and officially verified by the educational institution, confirming that you have completed the qualification. Official translations are required for all documents not originally written in English, Finnish or Swedish. See further information on the FAQ section below.

Verification of qualifications

• All admissions are conditional until Xamk has checked the information and documents provided by the applicant.
• Xamk may request additional verification of qualification details (such as completion and grades) during the application process if necessary. Original certificates are verified on campus at the beginning of studies. Admission may be withdrawn if documents are not submitted by the deadline or if incorrect information was provided.
• If you graduate after the application period, Xamk will also verify your final certificate before the admission can be confirmed. If you are admitted through certificate-based selection, Xamk will also verify your final grade average and, for Bachelor of Engineering degree programmes, the completed mathematics subject.

Certificate-based selection for non-Finnish qualifications

You are considered in the certificate-based selection if your qualification meets the general eligibility requirement for the studies and you have provided sufficient documentation on the grading system concerning your qualification on the application form.

• Lowest accepted average: an average equivalent to grade 3 (“good”) on the Xamk grading scale (1-5). This corresponds to grade C on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) scale and grade B on the United States grading scale:

• Completed mathematics subject: for Bachelor of Engineering degree programmes, your eligible diploma must include a successfully completed mathematics subject.
• Documentation of the grading system: Because grading practices vary between countries, each application is assessed individually. You must provide official documentation issued and confirmed by the educational institution or awarding body explaining the grading scale used in your qualification. The documentation must include sufficient information on grade divisions and minimum passing grades. In some cases, this information is already included on the diploma or transcript. You may also provide additional information or links that help clarify the grading system.
• Qualifications not accepted in this selection method: Higher education degrees (bachelor’s and master’s degrees) and qualifications completed in Finland are not used in this certificate-based selection. If you wish to apply with such a qualification, you must have a valid SAT score.

Language requirement: To be included in certificate-based selection, you must provide an accepted language certificate.

Points are not awarded in this certificate-based selection model because it is used in the Rolling admission procedure. Applications are processed continuously and students are admitted in the order in which complete applications are received. It is enough that the qualification meets the minimum requirement set for good study performance.

Requirements for admission based on SAT test

To be considered in SAT selection, you must meet all of the following requirements:

• Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: minimum 500 points.
• Mathematics: minimum 500 points.
• Accepted test results: only SAT tests taken after March 2016 are accepted. The SAT score must be sent to Xamk directly by the College Board.

Submitting the score

When scheduling your test, ensure that there is enough time for your score to be released and delivered to Xamk before you submit your application. You are responsible for making sure that the score arrives on time.

When registering for the SAT or ordering an additional score report, use school code 7593 for South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk).

Test reports are delivered electronically by the College Board. If you have already taken the SAT, you can order an additional score delivery through your online College Board account.

Please note that in the Rolling admission procedure, your application is considered complete only after the SAT score has been delivered to Xamk directly by the test organiser.

If you do not have a language test result, the required grade average or mathematics subject in your eligible diploma, taking the SAT test is a good option.

Eligibility requirements

You are eligible to apply to the master’s degree programmes if you have:

• a suitable higher education degree and
• at least two years (24 months) of relevant work experience completed after the date of issue of the eligible degree.

• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Product Development (Master of Engineering)
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or automation engineering 

Please note that the certificate‑based selection in Rolling admission only concerns degrees completed outside Finland. If you have completed your eligible degree in Finland, you must have taken the GMAT or GRE test to be considered for admission in this application.

Admission criteria

To be offered admission to these master’s programmes, you must qualify through one of the following methods:

Certificate-based selection:

• You meet the eligibility requirement for the programme, your eligible degree has been completed outside Finland with a good grade average and you have an acceptable language certificate.

OR

GMAT/GRE-based selection:

• You meet the eligibility requirement for the programme, and you have taken either the GMAT or GRE test with an acceptable score.

All admissions are conditional until Xamk has checked the information and documents provided by the applicant.

Xamk may request additional verification of qualification details (such as completion and grades) during the application process if necessary. Original certificates are verified on campus at the beginning of studies. Admission may be withdrawn if documents are not submitted by the deadline or if incorrect information was provided.

Certificate-based selection for non-Finnish qualifications

You are considered in the certificate-based selection for non-Finnish qualifications if you meet the eligibility requirement for the programme you apply to (suitable bachelor’s degree and two years of work experience in the field after graduation) and you have provided sufficient documentation on your language skills, degree, work experience and the grading system concerning your degree on the application form.

• The lowest accepted average: average equivalent to grade 3 “good” on Xamk grading scale (1-5). The requirement equals to grade C (65-77 %) on the European Credit Transfer System.
• Because grading practices differ between countries, each application is reviewed individually. A certificate issued by the educational institution or awarding body of grading scale used in the bachelor’s degree is required. The grading scale must provide sufficient information for example on grade division and minimum passing grades. Sometimes the scale is given on the front or back side of the final certificate or transcript. You may also provide additional information or links that help clarify the grading scale.

Language requirement: To be included in certificate-based selection, you must provide an accepted language certificate.

The principles for certificate-based selection for non-Finnish qualifications are only used for Xamk degree programmes in the Rolling admission procedure.

Requirements for admission based on GMAT or GRE test

The minimum score requirement for the GMAT test is 450 points. GMAT results for tests taken before 2024 and all GRE test results must be equivalent to the GMAT result of 450 points. These results are converted to the GMAT result with a relevant tool:

The GMAT and GRE test results are valid for 5 years. Your test result must be valid when the application opens (Rolling admission for January 2027 intake on 15 May 2026).

GMAT, GMAT Focus Edition and GRE tests are considered equivalent admission process. You can choose which test to take according to your own preference and convenience.

Submitting the score

When scheduling your test, ensure there is enough time for your score to be released and delivered to Xamk by the time of your application. You are responsible for making sure the test result arrives in time.

Your GMAT/GRE score must arrive to Xamk directly from the test organiser. The test reports are delivered to Xamk electronically. Choose your result to be delivered to Xamk either when taking the test or by ordering an additional score report (if you have taken the test earlier). Refer to Xamk programme/institution code when ordering the score delivery.

The official GRE General Test result will be available during 8–10 days after your test date. Scores are delivered to Xamk approximately twice a week. Read more at Sending Your GRE General Test Scores (ets.org)

Please note that in the Rolling admission procedure, your application is considered complete only after the test score has been delivered to Xamk from the test organiser.

All documents required for the application are uploaded to the application form on Studyinfo before submitting the application.

If any of the compulsory attachments is missing, or if the applicable test results (TOEFL, SAT, GMAT, GRE) have not been delivered to Xamk, the processing time for your application is prolonged and your chances of admission may be lower.

The submitted certificates do not need to be attested or certified at the application stage. However, Xamk may verify qualification details (such as completion and grades) during the application process and may request additional verification later if required.

The required documents include:

• passport, EU/EEA identity card with a photo or Finnish driving license
• proof of English language skills, see requirements
• degree certificate and transcript of records or statement of marks for the eligible qualification
• certificate issued by the educational institution or awarding body of grading scale used in the eligible diploma. The grading scale must provide sufficient information for example on grade division and minimum passing grades. Sometimes the scale is given on the front or back side of the final certificate or transcript. (Not required when applying with SAT).
• document exempting from tuition fees (if applicable), see exempting documents on the Xamk tuition fees website
• official translations of all documents not originally written in English, Finnish or Swedish
• certificate of change of name (if applicable): if your name on the qualification certificates is not the same as your name on your passport, a certificate of change of name is required (e.g. certificate of marriage).
