Technische Hochschule Lübeck (THL) is now an official partner of Xamk

Scientists and students at Technische Hochschule Lübeck – University of Applied Sciences have been in contact with Xamk for many years as part of the Erasmus program. Contacts became friendships, and friendships have now turned into official cooperation. The President and CEO of Xamk, Dr. Heikki Saastamoinen, and the President of TH Lübeck, Dr. Muriel Helbig, signed an Agreement on Academic and Scientific Cooperation on 24 June 2025.

In June 2025, Xamk representatives visited TH Lübeck to finalize the details of the new cooperation agreement. During the two-day visit, they explored the campus and its facilities. Juho Rajala, Director of the School of Technology at Xamk, described the visit as a success.

“We are very satisfied with the results of the two-day meeting. We were able to agree on concrete forms of cooperation and believe that international cooperation with TH Lübeck will improve the quality of education at both institutions in the future.”

New study opportunities in studies, research and teaching

The agreement covers student and staff exchange, the development of joint degree programs and double degrees, as well as research collaboration.

TH Lübeck is a practice-oriented university in northern Germany, offering degree programs in technology, design, business and natural sciences. With around 5,000 students, it is known for strong industry links, international collaboration and modern learning environments.

“The collaboration began four years ago between TH Lübeck and the Environmental Technology degree program in Mikkeli and later expanded to include Logistics and IT in Kotka as well as Business in Kouvola. In the future, it will also extend to Construction Engineering and Bioproduct Technology in Savonlinna” says Juho Rajala.

President Muriel Helbig is convinced: “We are only stronger together. We want to work together in the areas of study, research and teaching and combine our strengths. I am sure that great projects will emerge from the many ideas. Concrete ideas include, for example, a double degree in Information Technology and Design and a specialization called ‘Game Programming’.”

Plans also include joint research activities, co-publication of research, as well as conferences and other meetings. The next meeting is planned for May 2026 in Kotka, the twin town of Lübeck.
