Tutor’s greetings for new students

Our degree has always been a very warm and welcoming tight knit community, of people from all around the world and different backgrounds, as well as supportive and dedicated teachers, willing to share their insight and experience.

We have many student led activities such as clubs and guilds where you can find like-minded people, explore new activities and expand your knowledge and skills.

We look forward to meeting all of you!
The XAMK Kouvola campus is a repurposed barracks area residing on top of a hill. Gorgeous red brick buildings converted to a university campus.

Even though Kouvola is known for being a city of cement, it’s actually more than that! Not only is our degree’s studio well equipped for all things game and study related, with the 2nd largest LED volume in Finland and a motion capture rig, the city’s also got some cool hidden gems.

The cinema in Kouvola has one of the best sound systems, designed by one of our teachers, in the shopping mall Veturi. We have the biggest Prisma in Finland and an amusement park Tykkimäki. Also the beautiful National Park of Repovesi and the iconic Kouvolan Lakritsi.

It’s also a flexible city for outdoor activities — hiking, cycling, kayaking, or even skiing in the winter. Everything is close by, so it’s easy to take a quick break in nature and come back feeling refreshed

During your studies here you can look forward to many interesting projects, networking opportunities and of course, new friends! We have many options for lunch and if you have never tried, you should absolutely go to Hesburger! And if you’re up, there is plenty of extracurricural activities to go around.

We will meet you on your first day at Meduusa Studio!

Tutor’s greetings for new students

Kouvola is known for being a city of cement, but it’s actually more than that! Not only is our degree’s studio well equipped for all things game and study related, with the 2nd largest LED screen wall in Finland and a motion capture rig, the city’s also got some cool hidden gems.

The cinema in Kouvola has one of the best sound systems, in the shopping mall Veturi. The city also has an amusement park Tykkimäki, the iconic Kouvolan Lakritsi and the beautiful National Park of Repovesi. Speaking of which, Kouvola is a flexible city for outdoor activities — hiking, cycling, kayaking, or even skiing in the winter. Everything is close by, so it’s easy to take a quick break in nature and come back feeling refreshed.

During your studies here you can look forward to many interesting projects, networking opportunities and of course, new friends!

Our degree has always been a very warm and welcoming tight knit community, of people from all around the world and different backgrounds, as well as supportive and dedicated teachers, willing to share their insight and experience.

We will meet you at the beginning of your orientation week!

We look forward to meeting all of you!

Tutors’ greetings for new students

Kotkansaari is a compact, city-centered area with plenty of parks and opportunities for outdoor activities. New students can look forward to lots of gaming-related events, such as gamejams and LAN-parties.

In the first year, students get to know the gaming industry and its associations, as well as learn the basics and functions of game engines and game design principles. Creating games requires a lot of teamwork, so it’s important to get to know other students. The tutors are also happy to help with anything related to studying!

We will meet on 11.1.2027 at 10.00 am. At the Kotka Kantasatama campus Gamelab CodeHub on the 4th floor(A4020). Note that there are limited amount of parking spaces at Kantasatama. We encourage using public transportation or bicycle.

Our student overalls are Maroon with black details.

See you soon!
